Our bodies are made mostly of water.Water helps move every thing along, like blood and lymph fluid. These fluids help to move nutrients to where they need to go and flush toxins out of our bodies. If we get low in fluid, everything gets sluggish, and toxins build up in our systems. So we need plenty of good clean liquid, i.e. water, to keep our bodies working in good condition, and to keep flushing the toxins out. This all affects us physically, mentally and even sexually. If we're dehydrated or have a toxin build-up, we too become sluggish. Up until recently, I was drinking 2L or 8 cups of water a day. It did become a pain when going out though, because flushing out toxins means peeing a lot! But I did feel not as tired when I was drinking more H2O.

Oh, yes, I do. I have a glass of water beside me at all times, and I keep refilling it, and I'm willing to bet it's at least 8 glasses a day.
You need fluids. If you drink other than water, you are getting nutrients as well as fluid. But if you get too much nutrients already in your food, then the fluid is better off being clear, cold water.
As to why you need that much fluid every day, your body has to have liquids to function. Your body is mostly water, anyway; you are a bag of water clinging precariously to a calcium skeleton. A few other elements are all that keep you from simply sloshing away.
Anyway, your body is mostly water, and you exhale moist breath every time you breathe, you pee a bunch of it out as part of the process of ridding your body of toxins, and you sweat, for much the same reasons. And to cool your surface. So you need water. You will know you are drinking more water than you need when the water in the toilet bowl no longer turns yellow when you pee. Short of that, you are not drinking too much water.

It doesn't help you mentally or sexually. It does help your body though. I have heard that it flushes out toxins in your body. Seems to me that is accurate if you think about it.

It keeps you hydrated which helps your body overall. (TIP) If you want to see if you're hydrated enough, Look at the color of your urine. It should be clear. If it's not, you're not drinking enough.
