Last year I was put on antipsychotics (also referred to as "major tranquilizers") scary or what? I get side affects from medication very easily and while my body was adjusting (which took more than 5 weeks) this medication made it hard to do anything, I would frequently have to ring someone to come help me down stairs because I would be so dizzy I couldn't stand, they made me feel like a zombie my emotions drained along with my imagination pretty much I felt dead and not like me (a common effect with them) but without them I feel more like me but I worry about whether or not I am safe, sometimes my paranoid schizophrenia gets the better of me and it is very worrying about whether I am a danger to anyone. I have consulted other people using them, done as much research as I can, consulted doctors my boyfriend is confused too he said this to me "my opinion is I'm scared it will take you away from me, but I also think it might help, so I'm torn over you taking them" what do I do?

My mom had a similar battle with anti-psychotics. The docs couldn't get the dose right, and every time they tried to change her dosage (she was prescribed far more than the recommended maximum dose) she would go really paranoid and psychotic. This went on for decades.

What really made a difference was finding a good psychiatrist who was prepared to do more cognitive therapy, look at nutrition as well, and also make very conservative, slow changes to her meds. The result was that my mom has spent the last twenty years sane and stable, even under very trying circumstances.

Psychosis can be managed quite effectively with anti-psychotics, there is a wide range of meds which work in different ways, so it is very likely something can help you too. But stress, diet, and physical health are also important in dealing with the condition.

Best wishes.

PS: Be careful about just stopping the meds. This can bring on an intense reactive psychosis.

you must take your medication until your doc tells you not to. If you suffer from Schizophrenia, it will get worse and actually damage your brain chemistry with subsequent episodes if you don't take your meds.
Ask your doc this, I am right, i have been on antidepressants under psychiatrist before and he said it's not too bad to be off them if you are depressive, it won't chemically alter your brain, but if you don't take the meds prescribed to you it will alter your brain chemistry for good if you don't take yours.
I'm sure there are lots of drugs to try, find the right one and the right dosage for you.
Thing is, if you go off your meds, you will be in such a state that neither you OR your boyfriend with recognise you.
I know from a relative of my husbands', and a guy that used to work from my dad, if you don't stay on meds, even in the good times, the worse times get worse and worse until you could end up living entirely in a psychotic state, full time.
Actually, the guy that used ti work for my dad recently murdered an innocent man in the street, true story. He was an old guy , I won't identify where or who, as that would be identifying myself also, but it is true.
I really think that you would be better off on them.
I wish you all the best.

There are many different medications. Perhaps your doctor can work with you to find one with fewer side effects. It's not a good idea to just go off of medications, especially without supervision. Talk to your doctor and see what you can do to help yourself. Unfortunately, it's not an exact science and it's hard to get adjusted. Keep on trying...your safety and well-being is important. Good luck to you.

talk to your doctor there are other anti psychotic medications out there with less side effects. tell him you cant stand the side effects and would like to try other medication. good luck. i think your body is reacting poorly to your medication. if u are suffering from paranoid schizophrenia , you need to be on medications, but perhaps not these ones. good luck

Not without your doctor advice. I really hope you have weened down off these meds as it can be really harmful to go "cold turkey".
Your boyfriend really should not have a say in you wellbeing, He could loose you completely if you don't take your meds. Change prescriptions if you have to but try and find the one that's right for you.

Ask your doc clearly is it neccessary to take them. It may be important to you.

Ask your doc if there is another medicine you can take that wouldn't make you feel like that.

Also, I think it is better to take more rest than walk about.

Talk to your doctor about a good dose that you can live with.
