my experience is that God is real and close by me every day. this doesn't mean I am weak and want to believe in something because I can't cope with life. Sometimes it would be easier not to believe in God.
But, I know he's there because he has radically changed my life and continues to do so every day.
The Bible says that God made the sun and moon, the winds and the rain. If those are the things you find awe inspiring, I don't blame you - they're pretty spectacular!
I think though, that there's a mind behind them (I know there is, if that doesn't sound too arrogant).
And it's a mind that only wishes us good, not bad.
A mind that wants to get to know you.
Even though you may feel insignificant.
My suggestion is that you look at the world religions and see which, if any, are real. But don't exclude christianity just because it's familiar and you think it won't meet your needs. You might be surprised...

Not that long ago, scientists believed the world was flat, and that the atom was the smallest thing you could get. Then scientific beliefs were changed and now scientists believe the world is round and the protons, electorns and neutrons are the smallest things you can get. At the moment, scientists believe evolution and the Darwanian theory, but who's to say that might be a laughable notion in the next 50 years? Why does it matter what others believe? Open your mind and enjoy life and live by your beliefs, but I do believe it's important to understand and respect other's beliefs, even if they're not your own

I think the reason why SOOO many people try to make us subscribe to their beliefs, is because they are afraid of death and they need as many people to believe what they believe as they can for a safety blanket.
Truth is a matter of numbers. They crave as many people as possible to back them up so they won't be so frightened of death.
If THAT many people believe what THEY do,then it must be true.
I get it but if they continue forever to plague everyone about their beliefs, One of their listeners just might shoot them because they just can't stand to hear another word to come out of their mouth.
Their fear and insecurity drives everyone nuts.
All of us share those feelings of a fear of death but they just hound everyone around the bible, thinking that it will be safer, dying if they're holding a bible.
Worshipping the sun or anything else they believe in makes sense to them.
I think we ALL know that there is a high power that created all of this. I too call him god but I doubt seriously if we will ever be capable of understading what or who God is.
Not knowing is not the end of the world.

For the Muslim there is no need for separation between religion and science. It is understood from the Quran, revealed over 1,400 years ago, that there is both; "Creation" and "Evolution." And in both instances, it is only Allah who is "Able to do all things." In fact, it was the Muslim scientists, more than 1,000 years ago, who set the stage for the adancement of learning, technology and disciplines in science that we know today.
Allah has explained how He created everythng in the universe and brought all life out of water. He created humans from earth (not monkeys) and there is no need to attempt fabrications of "links" to the animal world in Islam.

Geoff, I believe in an ultimate destination for "perfect" souls after many lifetimes of reincarnation, after all negative karma has been cleared, we all become one with this conciousness which some call "god". This is not a person or being, but a level of enlightenment. This is more Buddhist then anything else. I have had this same question most of my life also.
I think that Buddhism may have some enlightenment for you. No one can "tell" you what to believe, but you will understand when you are ready. Be it in this lifetime or in future reincarnations. Would love to chat.

In worshipping the sun you have created for yourself a god.
As to the existence of God it can neither be proved nor disproved.
To disprove it, you would need to know everything about everything...or God may be in the areas you don't know. (I don't believe in 'The God of the gaps' but that is just one example.)
To prove it, you would have to be able to grasp what God is like. If you could grasp that, He would not be God, would He?
It is not possible to say, "It is sure" But, from experience you can come to say "I am sure"

Okay the only way this is going to work if you are able to tell the truth and i assume you can. Okay of all the knowledge that you DO NOT know, you have NO IDEA where to even look, can God live there, okay "IF" your honest you had to have said yes. Okay if you took a rocket lets say and put the RAW materials in a container and shook it up, or had lightning to strick it, would you get a rocket or must someone take that materials and put it together, okay you have a creator and designer, now the ten commandments [not suggestions] no government that has a place or country that would be safe to visit fails to have as its base those ten commandments and that includes the USA, and IF those are real so is the rest of God's Word.
