Also, can a stud be put in initially instead of a ring?? Can anyone reccommend a reputable place in Edinburgh where they are hygenic and safe?? Thanks.

Please, no comments telling me not to do it, it's stupid/ugly etc. I've made up my mind!

i have done piercing courses for my beauty salon and i can tell you: it is illegal in UK and wales to pierce a nose, belly button, top of the ear, eyebrow etc with a gun. it as to be done with needle.

make sure they open the needle in front of you and they wear gloves. if not either ask them to or leave. make sure the place is clean maybe even speak to clients coming out. we recommend people visit our salon at least once before we will perce anyone.

had mine done 3 years ago and stings bit not that bad. you can ask the studio to numb the area with a wipe.

make sure you have eaten before you go as the shock can lower your blood sugar.

good luck!!

no, you need a needle for this piercing. Some gun places do them, but it's a bad idea. For one thing, the gun automatically puts a back on the earring, which you don't need for a nose piercing. and you don't want it. how would you get it out? Guns are also unsanitary. They cannot be sterilized.

Pain is no big deal at all. Really, I don't remember any pain at all. Something I didn't know and wasn't prepared for is you will cry, streams of tears, from the eye on the side you get pierced. It's just a natural reflex reaction, but it's really strange to cry from one eye.

I had my pierced with a needle, and a nostril screw, which is basically a stud that is bent to stay in place. It's worked out beautifully for me. Some studios prefer to use rings initially, however the place i go to prefers studs.

Check out tribalectic.com. Lots of pictures, and they sell jewelry too, so you can check out what kind of options are available for a nose.

I don't have any recommendations as far as where to go, but talk to friends and look online. Most reputable places have a website.

You won't regret this. And it's not stupid or ugly. I absolutely love mine. Be careful though, this piercing stuff is highly addictive.

Hi
I am a professional piercer. DO NOT GO TO ANYONE WHO USES A GUN. They cannot sterilize it fully and the fact of the matter is the pressure will cause scarring in your nose that a needle will not. Piercers these days really truly hate the gun notion-please, for the love of your body-do not go to someone who believes its ok to inject infection into your nose.
A stud can be put in initially-it has to be a nose screw (dont let anyone tell you different-its the only one that will give you enough room to swell and heal) and it has to have at least a 2mm gem-preferably 2.3 mm.
I am not sure if Suck my Ink is still around, but check them out..they are wonderful.

ive had my nose pierced twice. Once with a gun and once with a needle. Any piercer that comes near your nose with a gun is obvisouly not doing their job properly as the only place you can have pierced with a gun is your earlobes. This is because your nose has thick cartilage and using a gun will tear it which can lead to a number of problems. (I developed a bump where the gun had torn into it).

The second time I had it done was with a needle which hurts alot less and is much more hygenic because they use hollow needles that push all the flesh out.

So definately get it done with a needle

Piercing guns ARE NOT suitable for any piercing of any sort. Especially bad for cartilage piercings of any sort (nose and ears included). The piercing studs are short, and are not one size fits all. Different parts of the body require different types, gauges and material of jewelry.

For your safety and for the sake of having a properly done jewelry, do not trust anyone with a piercing gun to pierce your nose! No professional will use them...EVER

Yes a stud can be put in and professional piercers will have something that will suit your needs, commonly you will end up with a nose screw. And the needle won't hurt as bad as you think it will.

To find a good place, start by checking http://www.safepiercing.org/ and if you want, look on Google maps for 'tattoo shops around _______' from there, call places or visit them, check them out and ask the necessary questions you want to ask. Use your best judgment to find a good place. Keep in mind it should be clean, friendly and professional. Good luck.

Its actually REALLY bad to even pierce an ear with a gun so DEFINATLY just get it done with a needle, it heals better and it gets pierced better all 13 of mine have been done with a needle, but when i 1st got my nose done with a gun it was MUCH more painfull, felt tight and it was just all wrong , lol... I took it out and went and got it done in a PROPER studio with a needle and now its perfect : ) They will tell you its better to get it done with a stud at first because it heals faster and easier to clean because a ring moves round ALOT more. DONT LISTEN TO ANYONE ELS do what you wanna do!! Good luck!!

needle is the best way much more hygenic and safer most piercers actualy use needles now instead it is less risky as a gun is unhygenic as can not be properly steralised

try go to this web site they are registered with the City of Edinburgh environmental health so they are a safe company good luck with it and ur best to go with a stud first then move on to a ring when u r healed

Don't go with gun. It will not heal correct and hurt a million times more. The needle is hollow so it takes a small bit of the cartilage with it, leaving room for the ring. The ring is much easier to rotate and keep clean. It may take quite sometime for it to heal as well. With that I mean not immediately closing after you take it out or getting infected. I think mine took seriously about 2 years. I have had it for 13 years. Got it done when I was 17. Once it is not so tender then find a stud that you like and stick with it for as long as you can stand. It is really easy to misdirect the ring or stud and make it sore and possibly infected or even make it bleed. This has worked best for me. I think you should do it. Everyone thought I was stupid until they saw it and thought oh it's cute. I don't have any recommendations for shops sorry.

I had my nose pierced with a gun and my friend had it done with a needle. It can be done either way, so its up to you really.

The only thing is that the stud they use with the gun is quite large, which I didnt really like, so if you have it done with a needle they can put in your choice of stud.

The gun is the quicker way to do it by the way. With the needle, they pierce your nose, and then afterwards only put in the stud/ring. I think there is less of a scar if you do it with a needle though.

Just make sure its a reputable piercer

good luck!

when I were given mine finished it replaced into finished with a needle, it damage! Im am confident both hurts. i did not even recognize you should do it with a gun yet my suggestion is to get it finished with a needle i have heard that a gun traps in bacteria which will truly sluggish the therapeutic procedure and strengthen the possibility of an infection.
