anywhere outside of bangkok. the northeast would be one place i recommend. but i won't use this as the reason to move to a province. Quality of life also matters.

This is a very broad question really, though you are quite specific in asking for the cheapest.. I think you will find as with most things, a sliding scale - I could probably find you a shack for $30 a month in a small village, but is that what you want?

I live in Tak Province and a decent western house can be rented for abt $100 a month or slightly more.. food is very inexpensive.. it is clean and safe here, but not alot to do.. you can get western tv and internet etc... and I do not think this will vary too much from most other outlying provinces.

Chiang Mai will be more expensive but offer more of Western style conveniences such as restaurants etc.. really best to come and have a look around first and see for yourself..

Well, Dasgirl is quite right about Chiangmai. There are many expats who liked the cooler clime there to settle down. It is quite modern town, a bit lay back compared to Bangkok, so you can retire with no worry. If you really want lower cost, than any province that strike you will be fine, outside Bangkok and Chiangmai.

I will recommend that you check through www.tourismthailand.org for information about retiring in Thailand. Look through the provinces and find one that you think you like and pay a visit. Check to see that the lifestyle suits you, rather than go blindly.

If you like, you can also contact me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com for some info on what you can expect in some provinces.

Most all provinces are the same as far as cost of living. As long as you are away from the main tourist areas such as Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai. If you live and eat as a Thai does it is fairly low cost of living. If you want to live the same as you did in your current home it will cost you more. You also need to consider the cost of your visa and traveling somewhere every year to renew it. You can get a retirement visa if you are over 51 years old but you must have 800,000 Thai Baht in a savings account, 65,000 Thai Baht per month income or an equivelent combination. I would recommend here in Ubon Ratchathani, Nong khai or Udorn Thani. All are close to borders and also have an immigration close by. I hope this helps.

I would agree that Chiang Mai is one of the best choices. The north east of Thailand is cheaper but there are no facilities for foreigners, hospitals are not good, foreign food scarce and if you do not speak Thai you are going to be very stuck.
Chiang Mai has reasonable health care, a much kinder climate (not so hot and sticky), a lot of tourism and foreign residents, an immigration department to renew visa's etc and shopping of all sorts. Much less culture shock than most other Thai cities.

would you loke to stay at country site.? un-spoilt area of Isaan Provice
A beautiful, un-spoilt area in the heart of Isaan Province, Thailand. The course offers a unique location in this relatively tourist free part of Thailand What we would like to do, is invite the golfer to experience their sport within the Kingdom of Thailand but also to see what a treasure trove of culture abounds within this special area! Our golf course is a relaxing environment, with many unique features which await the golf tourist. The golfing experience can be a challenge as 13 of the 18 holes have at least 1 water hazard plus the inevitable “beach”! We invite you to view our pages and to look at the unique area which is Isaan Province.

i would suggest my province,Chiangmai if u want some western plus with thai style. U can get western food, clothes and other stuff in Night Bazzar witha very cheap price. U will love the nice cold enviroment. Chiangmai is the only province in thailand where u can experience cold climate during oct to jan. The housing there are about 1.4 million bahts (US$39,000) to 12 millions bahts (US$340,000) near Lanna. Chiangmai is the best province in thailand about natural and rich culture of thailand. Mostly western who like about natural stuff, they will prefer coming to Chiangmai.

Isaan but forget everything you were used to by now! Do you really want to retire like that? One day you might need a decent hospital/medical care, clean surroundings, western food etc.... Think well about it!

i'm from the Philippines, not all areas are risk-free purely like on different international places. My suggestion is once you desperate to return over to the Philippines, continuously be alert of your very own residence. As to your counterpart, not all Filipinas are undesirable , yet some are. purely take extra suitable precautions ok.
