My personal opinion is that they must be Jealous of them.... think about it ...they get - Free Mon£y.. no getting up at the crack of dawn ..and no stressful journeys home .. I admit it .. I am jealous of my neighbour - he even has a Free Car. ! ..that is insured, Taxed and Serviced .by Joe & Joanna Taxpayer ..all he has to do is put petrol in it... it costs me a good few quid keeping my car on the road...but do I complain or sneer at him ...No ...because the guy was blown to bits in Iraq.. I didnt know this..so didnt I feel like a **** when I found out.. There is a lot of Snooty people out there I used to be 1 of them..Remember - you never know the minute when you could be struck down by an illness & you might need financial aid.. Dont think of people as Scroungers - you dont know what their circumstances are...even though they do look fit to work...

People are on social assistance for a variety of reasons. I've seen people unable to work because of injuries or disabilities, I've seen small business owners financially ruined and have no unemployment benefits. And I was once on social assistance for about four months, and I'm an educated professional (a teacher), because of personal misfortune and injuries.
One of the biggest insults of those on social assistance (SA) is that they are "lazy". Being smart doesn't make you lazy. Consider this fact:
If you are receiving SA and you work, every dollar you earn is deducted from your SA. That means if your SA cheque is $600 and you work for $200, you still get only $600 because your earnings are deducted. That means you're working for free. Right?
WRONG. You're *losing* money by working. Work requires grooming, commuting, lunches, cleaner clothing and a bigger diet because of the increased effort. People who are on SA are WORSE off by working part time.
The only way those on SA benefit is if their parttime job is under the table and not declared income, or the job pays more than their benefits. But how can a person on SA possibly land a job that pays enough? I and some could, but most can't.
The government in British Columbia changed the law a year ago and allowed people on SA to earn up to $400 with no deduction from their benefits. The result? People on welfare for years started taking parttime jobs for the extra money. They've got more in their pockets (eg. $600 plus $400 working parttime), unwanted parttime jobs are filled, more taxes are being paid, and _maybe_ in time those parttime jobs will become full time. They may still be pulling in the same "welfare" cheque, but everything else in the economy is better off for it.

I would like to know that myself too, I haven't worked for almost 14 years because of a serious accident and have been on disability benefits ever since, because people can't see the physical damage to my body they automatically assume I'm some sponger who prefers to swing the leg other than work, I think some people expect everyone who's disabled to be in a wheelchair and if their not, then there not disabled according to them, I had a highly paid job before my accident and paid a huge amount of tax for over 25 years, but for some reason people like to forget about that, its the same with people who have worked for years only to be made redundant and find themselves on the scrap heap because there are no jobs or the ones that are available required outrageous qualifications or you have to be under a certain age to do it, I really do wish people would stop and put their brain into gear before opening their mouths assuming someone who's on benefits is a scrounger, sorry but that isn't the case for the majority of us on benefits, its called circumstance and life, lets hope it never happens to them.

Thats' it! Before people will find out the circumstances they will judge those who are on benefits.
They've never been sick, or been divorced, or known what it is to be poor.
People who work, complain they work to pay taxes, and those taxes contribute toward Benefits.
(and the roads, water pipes, hospitals, Schools and other programs, etc)
don't let that get to you, i'm sure a whole million of us have been on a benefit at some stage in our lives.

they just assume everyone is getting it because they cant be bothered to work, but i had to claim it a few years ago as my partner lost his job, i hated it and i really dont understand people who do claim just because they dont want to work survive on the pitance they give out! i think that everyone who judges doesnt know anyone who has been on it and they certainly havent had the need to claim themselves, they should take a look at the whole picture before expressing their (normally very narrow minded) view on it!

Because people are always quick to judge, whatever the situation. Anyone not thought to be part of the working ethic is subject to scrutiny and assumed to be a scrounger. It's wrong but you can't change public opinion.

Stereotyping. A lot of people (I like to think the majority) genuinely claim, but there are some people out there who know exactly how to work the system, and get cash-in-hand jobs

u talking about welfare? or something along those lines? If it is welfare then for the most part u need to stay on it until u get back on your feet then get a friggen job! u want to know why many thousands didnt leave New Orleans during katrina which also killed several hundreds? Its because and i quote " the first of the month was coming up and i needed to get my check". So i tell u, that people who live on benefits, i should feel sorry for? U think the majority of the people who live here want to get up every day and work? No, but people on welfare need to get off their white/black *** and get a job and CONTRIBUTE to society.
