i would not do it. i had mine done and had it all of a year and i still have a slit on my tongue from where my piercing was, you can still see it if i stick it out. tongue piercings can cause alot of nerve damage, loss of taste, tons of dental damage not to mention the swelling that happens after you get it, my tongue swelled so much i couldn't eat and i slobbered for three days i sounded like i was sucking on a jolly rancher. there cool for the moment but if your going for a professional job or going to work in a work place where professional attire is a must a tongue bar won't give the impression you want to get up in the world. and yes it will interfere with your braces and your dentist won't be happy that you have one. most people get a tongue bar as a statement, im not saying there bad. unless you have many piercings, not just your ear and belly I wouldn't do it, it hurts, and its really unattractive and gets in the way when you eat and want to be intimate with some one. i liked it when i had it but it got old having to clean out my tongue ever time i ate and making sure the barbell ball didn't get lose. and when people play with there's i just want to rip it out, why would i want to see what you eat rolling around in your mouth let alone a tongue bar??

I don't know about the braces, but i have a friend who had her tongue pierced for 2 years and it didn't leave any scar or visible mark. So u shouldn't worry about it. Anyways from what i know the metal from the ring can damage your teeth anyways. Take care.

If you want to get your tongue pierced, you'll have to take responsibility for lots of problems in the future.

Tongue piercings are loaded with problems. Piercing oral sites can cause infection, bleeding, scarring, cracked teeth and nerve damage. Now you can add disturbing growths on the tongue to the list.

Dr. Mercola says, tongue piercing can lead to brain abscess which can be potentially life threatening. Tooth piercing can also cause tooth fractures and allergies. The metal in your mouth can interfere with your metal fillings and braces - you will actually have current floating in your mouth.

Think twice before getting your tongue pierced.

It will not leave a scar but if u dont want it anymore it will close up just like an earlobe but it u decide later in the future that u want it open again guess what? u have to get it repierced again. Everyones pain is different but it will be swollen for at least 2-4 days where u will not be able to eat at all, my friends always keep crushed ice aroung soon after they get it done they say it keeps down the swelling, but personally i dont have one im a germ phobic its too risky for an infection for me!

Why do you want to do it at all? Because some other kids did, and they assume you are afraid if you don't do it? Because you want to have a metal thing in your tongue that helps remind you not to over-eat? I can think of better ways, my dear.

Anyway, if you are of two minds about it, don't do it. Such an activity is only for those who are certain they want it, and WHY they want it.

I, for one, cannot imagine why except the above-mentioned motivation to eat less often, because it is messy eating with it and a nuisance to take it out. But there must be better ways to remember that you only eat at meal times, or by a rationally decided schedule. You can always join Overeaters Anonymous if you really need help.

It won’t leave a scar...and even if it did, so what? its tongue...your not going to be walking around with your tongue hanging out of your mouth...are you?...but there are two ways to get it pierced that I know of, one they make the hole and but the barbell in, but if you take it out it could close up over night (what a waist of money) the other way is to have a chunk of your tongue removed, so you will always have a hole in you tongue....My best friend got hers done fresh man yeah in high school and loves it, but a hole in my tongue just isn’t my cup of tea.....oh and she only had trouble eating 1 or 2 days she got it done...and I'm not sure if you have to wait to have your bracess removed or not, but I would.

I would strongly recommend that you do not get your tongue pierced. I have seen numerous patients who have had severe bone loss and abscess formation on the back side of their lower front teeth. This is the result of habitual rubbing of the barbell on these surfaces.
