how come they quit putting fenders on most kids bikes

Cost is one reason but it also gets rid of a few more places that little hands can get pinched. They also tend to develop a rattles and rub on the tyre. Kids tend to run into things so they usually get bent. They also weigh a bit and are unfashionable.

You can still buy them if you want but your kid will probably want to rip them off the first chance they get. If you ride in the wet they do stop the stripe but you still get a heap of other grime on you. So they are not that effective. Generally more people dislike them than like them

Because you look like a geek riding a bike with fenders. Kids didn't want to look like geeks, so they asked their parents to buy the bike with out fenders. Bikes with fenders quit selling, so manufactures stopped producing kids bikes with fenders.

When I was little my parents bought me a bike with fenders, and I hated them for it! First thing I did was rip them right off! I got in lots of trouble for it too.

Probably to save a couple bucks. There are after-market ones you can install yourself, though.
