It might not be arthritis. If you are convinced that it is, then take something over the counter. There are several medications out right now for arthritis and the pharmacist can help you pick one out.

actually there is no cure for arthritis ,It happens to us all to a certain degree, aging for one and also after surgery or a broken bone arthritis can set in....The main reason people do go to the doctor for arthritis is for the pain that it causes..Arthritis can be very painful and medictions sometimes will help the pain and give more mobility to those who suffer fom the disease..They have medications for pain and also to help the swelling and stiffness of the condition,so even though it is not curable they can at least stay pain free or almost pain free so that they can live a better life....I should say a better quality of life..They also have doctors that specialize in arthritis....

Gout is precipitation of monosodium urate crystals into tissue, usually in and around joints, most often causing recurrent acute or chronic arthritis. Acute arthritis is initially monarticular and often involves the first metatarsophalangeal joint; symptoms include acute pain, tenderness, warmth, redness, and swelling. Diagnosis requires identification of crystals in synovial fluid. Treatment of acute attacks is with anti-inflammatory drugs. Attacks are prevented with NSAIDs and/or colchicine, and, for persistent hyperuricemia, allopurinol or uricosuric drugs.
Sometimes, a diet low in purines is prescribed. Organ meats, beer, wine, and certain types of fish contain high levels of purines.

You have nothing to lose by learning what you can about athritis. The internet is a fantastic resource that can start you off in the right direction. At the very least, you may be able to find some info on what you could do to make the pain more bearable.

Just because there's no cure doesn't mean there's no therapy. You may not benefit from drugs, but he can give you some pointers on how to make life a bit easier.
