Seriously. I don't know how to get her in, or even why she won't come in. She seems scared. She did this once before and someone said that perhaps someone had been mean to her (I think it is an evil neighbor). I put her out to go potty and now she won't come in. If I try to just grab her, she takes off. Help!

Thanks guys, I got her in. She was just playing head games with me and trying to prevent me from getting any sleep tonight. I went to open the door to try some of the tricks, and she ran in before I had a chance to try any of them. Cats!
And, yes, she's spayed. I wouldn't let her out otherwise.

open a can of cat food, shaker her container of treats, knock a fork on the side of her dish....something along those lines normally will make them come running.

if it doesn't work....let her be for an hour or so. let her do whatever she is wanting to do. then check to see if she wants in. she's an intelligent animal...she realizes how cold it is, etc.

If she go outside without any problems, she should be able to come back in the same way.

She may have been abused by someone so she's afraid for some reason.

Try luring her in with some food or a favorite toy to help ease her and calm her down. It will take time but eventually she'll gain your trust and learn to come in.

If that doesn't work, she's probably an outdoor cat. Did she have a prior owner before you or are you her first owner? She might have been an outdoor cat and has grown accustomed to being outdoors. In this case, she won't come in no matter what you try!

If she won't come in then fix a place for her to be warm outside close to the house. A plastic garbage can or even a card board box with an old coat or fleece blanket or wool skirt or flannel.. a warm material.. you get the drift.. put it inside the container and place the container on its side with the opening facing away from the wind... the cat puts off enough heat it will not freeze..

Hopefully the cat will see you fixing this place for her and leaving some food for her and will start to consider you her provider.. A cat is always attached to their provider.. This is why not to do open feeding with a cat.... or if you do then you should groom your cat while she eats..

GOOD LUCK

Have a can of cat treats and shake it, have visibly on the floor of the entry way of your house some food and be a clear distance away as to not intimidate the cat and give her a treat after she has already started eating the food to make coming inside a positive experience. If she is adiment about staying outside, put a cat house outside, leave some blankets, or try getting her to go inside the garage inside instead if you have a garage.

How about tempting her with catnip?

Sounds like she may be pregnant. Was she spayed? I remember hearing of a cat doing the same, and what happened is that she had had kittens and had them outside, so she didn't want to leave them alone.

But if it's that cold, I doubt she's had kittens or they are still alive.

i know you have your cat back ... :)
My cat is an indoor cat but occassionally she escapes .. when she first did this i used to panic and have the whole household run after her....around the yard ...

Then one day she did it to me while i was trying to get ready to go out for an appointment and i just didn't have time to chase her so i left her out while i finished getting ready .. and LIKE your cat it turned out she was playing mind games .. Once she realised i wasn;t coming looking for her, she was at the front door crying to come back in ...

we sometimes take her out on a leash for a walk.

Keep her inside. There too many dangers for cats outside.
Wild animals, cars, cruel people, poison, disease and parasites to mention a few. They are also a menace to bird population.

Make sure she has access to some food. She'll need alot of calories to burn to stay warm. Get yourself a small animal trap at your local animal control. Catch her then bring her in. Have you considered making her a total housecat? We have six indoor cats ourselves.

leave the cat alone, it is going to do what it wants, no cat has ever starved to death because it wouldn't come inside.
