You have probably been watching the pool on TV and the ball being used has 6 red dots on it......most others have only 1.....the reason is for you to better judge the spin or "english" on the ball when stroking.....it also makes it easier for me as a spectator to watch some really good players and observe the stroke of theirs to learn as to how they get the ball around.....the other cue balls don't give you a clue at times.....hope this helps!!

RE:
Why do US style pool cue balls have all those spots on them?
Whats the go with them not like the blank UK cue ball or snooker ball?

There is many Cue sports including Snooker, Three cushion billiard and Pool. Pool has the most number of variety of games including 9 ball game, Rotation, One Pocket, Straight Pool and so on. There are rules applied on each game but as far as I know 8 ball game is the only Pool game with disputed rule. 8 ball is played in many countries and the rules is varied from each country. In general, the rules goes like this: 1) you must pocket all your balls from your group before pocketing 8 ball. 2) you win the game immediately if you pocket the 8 ball on the break. 3) you lose game when you commit foul during your last shot on 8 ball ( i.e. if you miss the 8 ball, if you scratch and if you hit other ball first. remember: the above three rule are not modified from any country..

The Red spot on the cue ball is to show others the direction in which the ball is spinning. You normally see this type of cue ball in tournaments on TSN to let the viewers see what English the shooter is putting on the ball

play snooker all the time in America and every cue ball I have seen has been cream white, zero markings of any type.

I think you're talking about measle balls. The little dots on them make it easy to see english and if the ball is doing what you intended it to do.
