The ozone hole above the southpole exists because significant ozone loss requires very low temperatures in the stratosphere combined with sunlight. In populated areas the temperature of the stratosphere is warmer.

In 2006 the substantial loss of ozone can be explained by the temperatures above Antarctica reaching the lowest recorded in the area since 1979.During the southern hemisphere winter, the atmospheric mass above the Antarctic continent is kept cut off from exchanges with mid-latitude air by prevailing winds known as the polar vortex. This leads to very low temperatures, and in the cold and continuous darkness of this season, polar stratospheric clouds are formed that contain chlorine. As the polar spring arrives, the combination of returning sunlight and the presence of polar stratospheric clouds leads to splitting of chlorine compounds into highly ozone-reactive radicals that break ozone down into individual oxygen molecules. A single molecule of chlorine has the potential to break down thousands of molecules of ozone.

The ozone hole, first recognised in 1985, typically persists until November or December, when the winds surrounding the South Pole (polar vortex) weaken, and ozone-poor air inside the vortex is mixed with ozone-rich air outside it.

very interesting duestion Mr.
I'm not quite sure abt wht I found, plz consider it.

Since the annual thinning of the ozone layer over Antarctica was first discovered, measurements have been carried out in all regions. Ozone depletion has been measured everywhere in the world except in the tropics. Depletion is usually worse the further from the equator and recently an Ozone hole (as defined by a distinct area of very low ozone levels) has been detected above the North Pole in the arctic.

There is a lot to learn about the breakdown of ozone in the atmosphere. Warmer region, non polar depletion of ozone in particular is not properly understood.

So for the time being the "ozone hole" seems to be an Antarctic phenomena, but a less severe thinning of the ozone layer is pretty much a world-wide thing. How acute and important it will be in the future is not known.

Due to the Coriolis forces, the ozone depleting gases tend to be directed to where there is least turbulence...that is the North and South poles.

Because it has to do with the magnetic fields around the earth. The magnetic fields are slightly shifting now.

The ozone hole has only been monitored for around 30 years. It may have existed thousands of years ago. We don't know since we didn't have satellites in orbit to detect it.

It might just be a fake hole. One created by Al Gore and friends after they created the internet. Kind of hard to see it, if it is way down there. Guess you just have to have faith, and believe they are telling the truth. Me, I dont believe anything that group says.
