When I was a young child I had a "memory" (which I thought may have been a dream which stuck with me, but it's rather an odd dream for a very young child to have) of being in an enormous room (not quite a room because it was so huge but I don't know how else to describe it - it felt like it was inside somewhere but the ceiling was so high you couldn't even see it etc)
Anyway, in this place, I was shown by someone/something what my life would be like - sort of like on a tv screen but without the tv... and I agreed to have that life.
I never remembered having it as a dream, it's just been a visual image/memory that has always been with me for as long as I can remember. (like since I was 5 years old or earlier).
When I got older, I heard of other people having the theory that we are shown our lives before we are born, & we agree to them. The reason being that in order for ourselves to advance spiritually over many lifetimes, we need to learn different lessons in each life, including all the hard times, which we learn & grow from.
As a child I was not brought up around religion/spiritualism in any way so I don't think I could have *picked up* this *memory* from something someone said.
Anyway, as for your last question, "who are we without a human body?" - the way I see it is that our bodies are nothing but a vessle for our spirit, it's something that we can use for a while but without it, we are no less of a being. We are the same souls with or without a body. Our bodies are just what we need for now so we can live our lives, something tangible to *carry* our spirits around in.
As for what happens after we die - I don't kow for sure (as no one does!) but I am pretty convinced that our spirits/souls do not just *dissapear*. The reason I beleive this is because I have had many encounters with spirits, people who have passed on. The only other explanation I have for my encounters & experiences with spirits is something to do with them not being conscious thinking souls, but like memories that have been imprinted on our environment which be repeated. If that is the case, then perhaps spirits/souls *do* dissapear after our physical body dies. I don't think it is the latter option though because I have had (what seems to be) conscious communication with spirits & if it was just an imprinted memory on the environment, then no interaction between us & them could take place. But that is another matter!
Anyway, I have rambled on enough, but it's not really a question you can have a one sentence answer to!

God created all souls at approximately the same time. So in spiritual time we are the same age as Adam and Eve and John the Baptist. In the first earth age when dinosaurs roamed the earth we were in our spiritual bodies. now i believe it is quite possible that our spiritual bodies actually walked the earth at the same time as the dinosaurs. as spiritual beings their flesh bodies had no effect on us. now if they had a brain or were possesed by a human spirit and was able to convince our spiritual bodies of good or evil things would only be speculation.
why don't we remember before, perhaps some of us did things so unspeakable that it would immobilize us and When God wiped out the first earth age he was giving us a chance to redeem ourselves for the abominations that we committed.
In the bible it said that one third of the people followed satan, these people now have a fresh start to make the right choice. if they choose to follow him to hell then they will be as the smoke on the end of the cigarette. they may have had substance only moments ago but then they were put in the fire and consumed and all that is left is a ever dissipating puff of smoke.
they will not fry in hell for ever as is believed by some because God don't play that. If on judgment day after all have seen the truth and some still choose to follow satan, good riddance. puff em out and lets get on with the good things that God has to offer.
on you last question we are exactly the same person without a human body. we are just not hindered by this flesh pot which is prone to illness and breakage.

One should know about the difference in the terms, creation and production, prior to understand what is asked in this question.
Before our birth we, were there in a created form, When Allah created the whole universe in six days. Each and everything was created at that time by the act of creation, time less, space less, process less and abrupt action. We have it in our memory in the shape of our sub-conscious.
After that all the created whole was thrown into process of production, by a logical sequence of existence in an arranged manner. So it required space and time to come into existence one by one.
Our process of birth was started at the same time, by waiting in a Que to our fore fathers to get birth before us, as it was a well arranged sequence of process of production, designed by almighty Allah.
We were created in the shape of our original self,(malakoot), still in the hands of almighty Allah, "Subhan Allazi biyadihi Malakootu kulli shae, wa elaehi turja'oon." (last verse of chapter Yasin, of Holy Qur'an). Than through a power of attorney given by our almighty Lord, called Ruh,(soul), with the combination our body and nafs, so that we may take actions, our projected and unreal selves were sent to this temporary world, for test run.
Almighty Allah will examine our deeds on the day of judgement and award the Paradise or Hell, as per our good or bad deeds accordingly, in the actual Real world with our original Self in Eternal life of hereafter.

Deep and Surreal - We are nowhere before we are born and we go nowhere when we die. We exist for as long as the chemical balance that creates us and keeps us alive exists. This can be altered by a multitude of things - disease (other chemical based things upsetting our chemical balance), injury (trauma upsetting our chemical balance or bleeding to death) old age - when the balance is upset by the body's inability to maintain it through not being able to renew cells as quickly or as often as possible or process energy etc.
Thats' the godless answer. The god answer is heaven then earth then heaven again (unless your bad or from another religion in which case who knows where the heck you go...)

Before I was born I was in my mothers womb. Before that I didn't exist as I was created by my mother and father. After I die I will be cremated and my ashes will probably be scattered somewhere, so I will become part of the earth.

No birth. No death. Who is born? Who dies? Who am I? These are the questions worth asking ones self.

What happens when you die is exactly what "you" know and have come to understand will happen nothing more and nothing less!
How can it not be that way?... Now I can tell you that I dream a dream that does not stay in my head
