Why is suicide looked down upon & illegal in some places ?

Should not it be a right & personal choice, all humans our entitled to?

People who choose to end their own lives are usually mentally ill or severly depressed. Physician assisted suicide is another matter, but in general you shouldn't have that choice. "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem."

lol. We can answer it from a religious standpoint :P

Maybe. It depends on how one's faith views life and death. In some systems, it seems that humanity has no control over living at all, so why then should they have power over dying?

In others, some being sees taking the most direct route to his kingdom as wrong.

However, some have had reasons to do it. Would suicide not truly be martyrdom to ones self?

EDIT: As I recall, in Britain it was illegal to commit suicide, punishable by death. Some times someone would fail, and be killed by the governement for attempting.

yes. its our life, its up to us to decide whether to live it or not.

and whoever said its a permanent solution to a temporary problem, i disagree. people don't 'just' commit suicide. its something that gets a lot of thought and time. if things get better its just contemplated but not acted upon, but is the problem is a long term one its followed through with. i should know, i contemplated suicide through the ages 15 to 18, and meds didn't help. then things got better and the decision got shelved, and i hope it stays shelved.
i met a psychologist who wrote a book and he told me that most people have given serious consideration to suicide and other self harm before the age of 25.

Why do you want to kill yourself? You may hurt, but what of the people you care about? Your mother, father, brother(s), sister(s), friends, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers, even people who just see you in the coffee shop in the morning and go "Hey, there's that one guy who always gets a ____ with _____" will be left behind. And all of them will be hurt even more deeply than you may hurt right now.

The "you" in that paragraph is hypothetical. But if you ever start to contemplate suicide, think about the people in your life closest to you and at least say goodbye before you go.

To end someone's life one way or another (volentary or not) is considered playing God, however, isn't keeping people alive (volentary or not) just the same? Maybe its their time to go, and yet we try and spend all our efforts and money to keep people alive.

Regardless, suicide is a choice, it may not be legal, but you can do whatever you want to, just have to deal with the consequences (assuming you fail at it...)

Just my opinion anyways.

Sure it should. And it does.

And what does it matter if it's illegal after you've already blown your brains out?

But if religions went around admitting that a person has a right to end him/herself, there wouldn't be many people left hanging around to adhere to the religion. There probably wouldn't be many people hanging around at all.

with all of the great things in this life why would anyone want to think about ending their life even as wrong as suicide is.

First only if you believe that God gives us life and therefore decides when it should be taken away or ended. And personally I think that's a real cowardly way to go.
