I worry constantly that I've left the iron or hair straightener on, that I havent locked the doors and windows or I've forgoten to do something in my routine. I have to go check things up to 3 times.

Might I have OCD?

Hi there,
This sounds like you could have OCD, but don't be too sure of it yet. Having had it myself for 3 years it took me time to eventually realise I had it. OCD is an anxiety disorder, so you could find these compulsions are stronger when you are stressed. This means your brain thinks it has to carry out the compulsions to stop the anxiety, which does happen, but never helps in the long-term as you can become dependant upon 'checking'. If you find similar things happen, ask a doctor to refer you to a therapist who can give you effective therapy such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). This was very effective, and I was given effective help and advice to help get rid of OCD. Good luck!

THIS IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL ADVICE:

You're just not that sure abt yourself, i had a period in my life when i was just like you. Did i forget the gas on? Did i lock the door? and etc... Just be sure you be more confident, and try doing the following for the start then it will go away and you wont need to do it anymore. Do the following ex. when you’re locking the door while locking it say I’m locking the door, I’m checking it and its closed. This will make you remember that you switch the thing off, or locked or etc. After some time you will be perfectly cured.

Ya that sounds like it my mom has it but luckly a mild case she's not constantly cleaning or indecisive but she does check doors and locks like three xs then asks me 2 reassure her my advice don't get frustrated it's not on purpose it's the way they are just calm her down if that happens cause it's triggered more by anxiety and never interrupt her when she does that cause they have 2 start over and do it longer

Sounds like a pretty classic case of OCD to me. The good news is there is medication that helps with that as well as book available. (I think one is called The boy who Couldn't Stop Washing his Hands".

You probably do. Go see a psychologist and get some behavioral therapy before your checking causes you further distress. You just need to learn a few strategies to boss your brain back from making you do these unnecessary things.
