If I am swimming, using the eliptical machine, and doing crunches will that ensure continuing weightloss, toning muscle, without building more mass. If any other ideas please offer. Thanks in advance.

Forgot to ask. When doing the butterfly kick either on your stomach or back, does that work your abs?

it is causing u to lose weight maybe, but it is very hard to make any visible effect on muscles. u have to go to gym and lift weight to tone muscles. and in gym u do not build mass, u make muscles. u build mass in the kitchen, when u eat after gym - u eat carbs u gain mass and muscles, u eat protein - u build muscles

Hard and heavy work outs with weighs will build muscle. Muscle is heavier than fat, therefore people wonder why they are not really loosing much weight. A light workout that burns calories but doesn't actually work the muscles hard is the best way to loose fat without building mass. Things like raking leaves a large yard will burn fat. Just walking at a regular pace will keep you tone w/o actually building huge mass, as opposed to jogging up and down stairs and lifting legs hiiigh.

On weight machines, to tone without adding bulk, do MORE REPS with LESS WEIGHT than you know you can handle. Other activities like swimming, tennis, jogging, etc, tones but doesn't necessarily build mass. As for crunches, make sure you are doing them right or you will end up with muscle "bulk" around your stomach.

It's actually hard to build mass unless you are genetically muscular and/or work really hard at it. Keep working out and you'll be fine.

you don't get big and muscular by accident. it takes years of dedication and dieting to become that way.

you have to eat big to get big it's that plan and simple...it took me 20 years of weight training to go from a lean 140 lbs to a lean 260 @ 6'0. trust me it was FAR from easy...
