Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) was a leading painter in the French Baroque period.

Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) is now considered to be one of the Dutch masters and was working during the Dutch "Golden Age" as part of the Delft School.

Both artists were realists, although their subject matter was radically different. Poussin went for grandiose religious or allegorical works, whereas Vermeer's works were of domestic life.

NIcolas Poussin, leader of pictorial classicism, was a French Baroque painter 1594-1665 and he was the inspiration for Neo Classical artists such as Jacques Louis David who revived 'Poussinism'. He also inspired the post impressionists such as Cezanne.

Johannes Vermeer was a painter of the Dutch Delft school 1632-1675. Although his work spanned part of the Baroque era we do not term it as such as Baroque art. Although some features appear in Dutch art, the Baroque style was limited mainly to Catholic countries.
