If he is not talking at all, ie even saying hiis best attempt at mum or dad, i would suggest that maybe he needs his hearing checked, because if he cant hear the noises, he cant practice the sounds, if this isnt a problem, then I would not worry too much, my 25month old has only just started talking, i was extremely worried, as my first two were very quick talkers, it will happen. I read once that from the ages of 1-2 we cant wait for our kids to walk and talk, and then from the ages 4-5 we tell them to sit down and be quiet, sooooo true, good luck

Should he be talking by now? There is such a wide range and all children progress at different paces. I think if you have a concern you should definitely mention it to his pediatrician. My son's the same age. He has a developmental specialist (due to premature birth) that works with us. She says to "talk to him and talk to him until you're blue in the face and then talk to him some more." Read books. Babble on to him about what you're doing. Do Pat-a-Cake. Sing songs. Name and describe everything to him. Listen to his "baby noises" with interest and happiness. (My personal opinion: limit television as much as possible.)

Obviously he is not ready to talk. All babies go through the different life stages at different ages. And be careful what you wish for. Once he starts talking you're going to want him to go back to just making baby noises...he will talk your ear off!

Yes, he should be able to say a few things. If he's not talking at all, I would take him to your pediatrician. If you sit with him and read books, like with animal pictures, he should be able to repeat the animal sounds and he would learn from you asking "what does the kitty say"? that this picture was a kitty etc.

All babies talked at different ages. My first child spoke at 12 months, while my last baby spoke at 3 years. It's all perfectly normal. If you are truly concern, talk to your Pediatrician.

I have been told boys take longer to talk. He will talk when he is really. Has he got older brothers or sisters cause i know with my 2 1/2 girl she doesnt say much its cause her older sisters do it for her but now we have been going around other kids she talking heaps. One day you wont get him to shut up.

he should be saying about a dozen things that have meaning to you. if you want him to talk more, talk to him like he is an adult. Make talking a game with him. Repeat sounds like lalalal or babababa or dadadada, then say, "Johnny's turn" so he copies you. If he ignores your game playing, go het his hearing tested, especially if he was jaundiced after birth.

Yup, heard of this before and this is the best thing for him. Stop talking for him. If he wants a drink let him ask. Don't ask "Do you want a drink?", for him. Ask what do you want.
