So I had chronic constipation for a long time and last week i decided to put an end to it. I take Metamucil and I eat lots of fiber. I also think i drank a lot of water today, probably around 6-8 cups of water. But for some reason im constipated right now, or at least i think i am. I feel like im full of **** and i keep gasing all the time. What could be the reason for this and what have i done wrong with my diet?

if you have chronic constipation (i.e., lasting more than 3 or so days), and this is a frequent problem for you, it's definitely time to go to the doctor. talk to your regular doctor about referring you to see a g.i. specialist.

there are many possible problems: "eating a lot of fiber" in the form of metamucil tablets won't correct for a significant overall dietary problem. you could have an anatomical abnormality, like something just shaped incorrectly in your colon. you could have nerve damage that prevents your lower sphincter from relaxing enough to have a b.m., or that prevents normal g.i. motility at all. the list goes on, so go get checked out by a specialist.

You are "backed-up", medically known as impacted. This can be quite severe depending on the volume, pressure, condition of your intestine, and so on. It may not be caused by your diet, but that is a possibility. Side effect from medication is also a common cause. Not to alarm you (you may not fall into this category) but failure to clear your bowel could cause a rupture, which would likely cause sepsis, a bacterial "poisoning" of your abdominal space. Sepsis is a very serious condition that can be fatal in a very short time if not treated with a strong antibiotic and possibly surgery to open and flush the bacteria. Talk to your pharmacist about enema products and their proper use immediately. The more impacted you become, the more difficult it will be to clear it. If the enema doesn't work sufficiently, get to a hospital. They deal with this on a regular basis. After you are cleared, a bowel-healthy diet is in order. As you already know, fiber and lots of water are a good start. Learn about the different types of dietary fiber and the one that is best for you. You should consider a daily dietary fiber supplement like Citrucel. If that doesn't keep you regular, you can supplement that with Docusate Sodium gel caps (stool softeners) without the concern of addiction or dependence. A good pharmacist is an invaluable resource for this type of condition. Their guidance and advice is free and you can will probably buy the above type of products at their store anyway. If a pharmacist won't spend what you consider an appropriate amount of time with you, go across the street. There are many who care a great deal about your health. Of course, seeing a doctor is in order if over the counter medications don't clear you up. Your pharmacist can also guide you on when it's time to see a doctor. Don't be afraid to seek more than one opinion. Good luck! (No, I am not a pharmacist.)

You need to go see a Doctor Man!!!!

Sh** is very toxic to your body.

You could end up in the hospital. If you don't Sh** by tomorrow.

You may have to get a Enema done to clean out you bowels. If that does not work then you will have to have something shoved up your A**. Just like what a plumer does to your toilet

I hope you are not getting sick and that you get rid of the **** soon. Maybe try a gentle laxative. I got like that right before i got sick for about a week. Try to drink plenty of fluids to be on the safe side. Total maximum strength Maalox worked good for me if you need it and can take it. I hope you stay well.
