make a concoction of Lavender Oil (two teaspoons), rosemary oil (two teaspoons)and tea-tree oil )also 2 teaspoons and mix it with any vegetable or Olive oil ( about 3/4 of a cup

rub it through the scalp and leave it on for as long as possible ..wearing a shower cap to avoid mess

in our case it was an unavoidable six hours as we were on Bottled Gas to heat our water and we just happened to run out AFTER we applied the treatment..and we could not wash the oil out until we recieved a delivery of gas ...

I think you need to leave it in for AT LEAST THREE hours

Wash and Rinse well ..

Just one thing re head lice ... many peopl e will try and tell you that they will only survive for 24 hours off the head ... SO NOT TRUE ...

when my daughter had them we caught one and stuck it to a microscope slide with clear tape .. it lived for nearly three days ...we watched it . and it was actually very interesting ...

people MUST also be extremely patient and thourough and make sure they comb the hair with fine toothed combs to get the eggs.
I think the longer you leave the oil concoction on the more damage it does to the eggs .. because my daughter didn't have any problems AFTER the long six hours.

There are a number of strategies to combat head lice (see the wiki page)
o Shave your (child's) head or at least have a short hair cut
o Education to minimise head to head contact
-- no sharing hats
-- avoid other people's (children's) heads
o Regular combing of hair with lice comb (fine tooth comb) to remove lice and eggs (nits)
o Using hair conditioner (detangler), which undoes the glue that keeps the eggs stuck to the hair shafts - many people combine this with combing
o Wikipedia mentions Louse Buster - a hot air treatment
o Various chemicals are available - from pesticides to natural oil based louse treatments - talk with your pharmacist

I got something from a school nurse and this is what they recommended for a more natural way...

First apply tree oil to the hair and let sit for about 10 to 15 minutes.... Then rinse out with vinegar. Comb out the hair with a very fine comb. Depending on your situation you may have to do it more than once...(After I did this I put the comb in bleach/hot water and then rised it, left it to dry for next use...)

Make sure though you don't wash your child's hair with a conditioning shampoo for a few days. Also they have some stuff in a can that I sprayed their coats, bed, hats and back backs with. You have to do that for a few days because those things tend to live with out food for a few, then go back for more...

For my boys, and being summer time I was able to cut their hair short to better get rid of them quicker. I have been told by mothers of girls that you can keep their hair in braids, with the oil in it to also keep the area from reinfestation...

Hope it helps
