networking, scripting, DB2, sys admin, hardware, sofware, tools, mainframe, midrange, all are important, but nothing is guanteed in the IT industery, if business is good you have a job, if its bad you may get the cut, just depends. i work in the IT and so far we have missed all the layoffs but i work nights so they don't want to cut any one that is willing to work from 6pm to 6am :0) also depends on what your intrested if you like taking apart and building things then hardware or if you like to program or install software then that is the route you should go. an ITT school can help you figure out where you skills would be most applied. good luck!

defo anything todo with the security side of things. although also networking and programming are also going to be high paid jobs. you should do a job just for the money you should do it as you no you will like it. you have to do that job for a long time.
