A soldier came into the post office and stood in line behind me. He looked stressed, worried, tired, or just having a bad day. I turned to him and said, "Thank you for all that you do for us." He smiled from ear-to-ear and perked right up. When it was my turn to go to the clerk, I motioned him to go ahead of me and told him that I insisted. He smiled again and took care of his business. As he was leaving, he turned from across the room and loudly said "Thank you and God bless you."

He probably doesn't get that sort of recognition from strangers every day and I don't get the opportunity to give it very often. I hope it made him feel as good as it did for me.

I'm a liberal and that's how I treat our soldiers when I get the chance.

I would thank you for your service. I think most Americans are at the very least, troubled by the war. However, people know it's not the soldiers fault. Maybe that's all the more reason to be proud of you. I am so proud of you for serving. I would hope people would remember it's not just the soldiers who are sacrificing. I think about the parents, spouses, children and even grandchildren who are also sacrificing and worring about their loved ones. My wife is in the Army. We have a three year old boy and she is gone. It is so hard on us as a family. When people thank my wife or do something nice for her, I feel like they are acknowledging my son and me. So, I would do anything I could to show my respect and gratitude for a soldier and I hope, whatever people's political views are, they may continue to show that same compassion and appreciation for anyone in uniform.

Well it depends.

If you are out doing personnel business during non-duty hours, I would "politely" remind you about AR 670-1. You shouldn't be off post in ACU's unless it's for official business, a quick break during lunch, or heading home for the day.

Otherwise, I would give you a head nod and continue on.

Usually I smile when I see a person in uniform. But I know what you are talking about. For some people ACUs and BDUs are more of a scarlet letter than something to be proud of. I say hold you head up high! Thank you so much for serving our country!

I'm thinking what an awesome Military Man, and we appreciate you so much. Your in our prayers daily.

I was raised near Millington, Tennessee one of the largest Military base, and I was taught from an early age to stop and Salute. If A Military Person came into a store and he was ready to check out, we would step back and allow him/her to go first. That was showing our respect and it is still done today, If it wasn't for you guys/women willing to defend our freedom, we would be under a dictatorship. And we want you all home!

Shake hands, share a cig, maybe even pass a brew. I probably could be in your shoes, but for whatever reason I am not, all that I can give is my respect for the service that you show towards the country that I love.

I would stop and thank you, and if we were in a restaurant and I could afford it, I would pay for your dinner.

My son is in the Navy, people have bought him drinks and dinner, and one time a woman traded seats with him before boarding at the airport, she flew coach and he flew first class.

Made him proud that he enlisted, the same way that you should feel about yourself. There are a lot of yoyo's that don't appreciate what you have done, but there are a lot of us that do.

So Thank You.

It's like wearing a tuxedo to a night club, you kinda stand out. The other people just don't know what to say. Right or wrong thanks for being there.
