The Bible!!!

2007-01-14 18:45:14 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

For the most part all you will find is modern day speculation (opinion) based on often misinterpretation of the scriptures. The only reliable source on the life of Jesus is the New Testament in the Bible. Specifically the four Gospels and bits and pieces mentioned in the epistles.

Any other resource is speculation. If you are wondering (loosely) what people did in the time of Jesus which would give you better insight into how Jesus lived, then general archaeological history books would be suggested, but I have yet to see a non heavily opinionated book on the life of Jesus, yet.

However - you might explore the works of Josephus, the Jewish Historian in Rome. Simply Google "works of Josephus" and you should find some on-line reprints of his accounts on Jewish history and a mention or so of Jesus.

Jesus (8–2 BC/BCE to 29–36 AD/CE),also known as Jesus of Nazareth, is the central figure of Christianity. He is commonly referred to as Jesus Christ, where "Christ" is a title derived from the Greek christós, meaning the "Anointed One", which corresponds to the Hebrew-derived "Messiah". The name "Jesus" is an Anglicization of the Greek Iesous, itself believed to be a transliteration of the Hebrew Yehoshua or Aramaic Yeshua, meaning "YHWH is salvation".

Dear friend, Lord Jesus Christ's Peace be with you. I had gone through the other answers given for your question. Well all have more or less the same answers. If you are interested just to know about Jesus, what they suggested are useful. but if you really want to know who "Jesus is", You can enter in to your heart with the belief that he is the son of God and you will see him and experience him in your daily life. I am talking from my life experience. and if you open your inner eyes and look around, u will see Him every where. If you know nothing about Him You can start with the Holy Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. For me He is LOVE, HE IS MY AND WORLD'S SAVIOUR, THE GOD MANIFESTED IN HUMAN FORM. HE IS COMPASSIONATE LOVE. THERE ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY ATTRIBUTES THAT IS PROPER TO HIM BUT TO WRITE OF HIM AND HIS DEEDS, THE WORLD WILL NOT SUFFICE TO CONTAIN THE BOOKS ON HIM. If it is a real search to reach the truth, he himself will lead you to the answer. May his grace and Spirit of Lord Jesus Christ be with you and fill you and protect you.

Start with the New Testament of the Bible and read the 4 gospels. If you don't go to church, find a Bible believing church and make an appt. to go in and speak with a pastor there. You will never regret finding Jesus - He is the Way, the Truth, and the Light!!

Begin with Matthew, the first book of the new testament and read through Mark,Luke and John. He is actually throughout the whole Bible and in the old testament is revealed in types and shadows.

MY DEAR FRIEND,
I AM A CHARISMATIC CATHOLIC AND I RAN TO VARIOUS god"s BEFORE COMMING TO JESUS. IN HIM I FOUND ALL MY ANSWERS. MOST OF US WHO BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST WILL TELL YOU THAT THE MOST ACCURATE PLACE TO KNOW ABOUT JESUS IS THE BIBLE ESPECIALLY THE NEW TESTAMENT. IF YOU FIND IT ODD TO READ THE BIBLE, ( I KNOW, BECAUSE I FELT THE SAME WAY BEFORE I ACCEPTED HIM AS MY SAVIOUR) THEN FIND A TRUE CHARISMATIC CHRISTIAN WHO BEILEVES IN THE WORD OF THE LORD TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH IT. DONT GO THOURGH THE NET OR ANY NON BELIVER OR LISTEN TO SKEPTICS WHO DOUBT THE AUTENTICITY OF THE BIBLE, THESE ARE THOSE WHO ARGUE ON EVERY HOLY THING BUT ARE NEVER SATISFIED. GOD AND HIS WORD (JESUS) IS RECEIVED ONLY THROUGH FAITH AND NOT THROUGH REASONING. THE BEST TEACHER YOU CAN HAVE IS THE HOLY SPIRIT, HE IS THE THIRD PERSON OF THE TRINITY WHICH JESUS GIVES TO ALL WHO BELIEVE AND ASK HIM. DONT GO TO THE QURAN BECAUSE IT IS BASED ON A FAIRY TALE AND HAS BEEN PROVEN ON NUMBER OF OCASSIONS TO BE HYPNOTIC AND INDUCES BONDAGE. YOU MAY REFER TO A SITE STARTED BY A FORMER MUSLIM LINKED BELOW. TRUE LIGHT IS FOUND ONLY IN THE BIBLE AND THE TORAH NO WHERE ELSE. MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU AND GUIDE YOU, SHALOM.

I DO WANT TO KNOW, WHY YOU WANT TO KNOW OF JESUS?

try reading a history of christianity, different versions of the bible, any number of commentaries, various books not part of the bible, and then you'll realize how little anyone really knows about him. just don't read the four gospels. they don't really tell you anything, just what someone wants you to read and then belief as fact when it's really mostly fiction compiled from just a few sources agreed to by a few men in the fourth century. the various versions and translations have affected what is in it. even scholars are in disagreement as to what it should really mean, and how to translate the words from the many sources and languages.

The library, go with the idea of finding out was it a factual or allegorical recount. Also look for political influences, propaganda and bias from all sources, weigh each and every source with an ounce of skepticism, question and judge veracity accordingly.
