That is not an updo, it is a ponytail. However if you add some curls to dress it up a bit and a bow to match.... or a
rhinestoney barrette(s), I personally feel it would be acceptable... if it is classy--- or even a few matching flowers (simple) attached to a barrette or on a wire that you could wrap through the ponytail onto a scrunchy would be nice. You of course, would have to pay for the extra accessories yourself.
If your hair is long you could wrap the bottom of the ponytail back 'up and under' into the first rubberband for an elegant look. A stylist could really make this pretty.
Most importantly, when in question, you should check with the bride on this one. You dont want to outdo her either as it is her day to shine.

No, an updo is where all or at least most of the hair is up. If you put that ponytail into a bun, that would be an updo.
My favorite updo is the classic french twist.
You can buy a hair rubber twist thingie and create a chignon (bun)...it's easy and holds all the hair nicely!

no, an updo is where your hair does not hang down, so we can see the back of your neck fully nude =)
it may hang down some after it has gone up, but the most important thing is that it does not cover / is off of the back of your neck
showing neck used to be considered somewhat scandalous in the olden days, it was a way for bridesmaids to be sexy. wearing a low ponytail is too matronly and demur imo

I think "updo" kind of refers to all the hair being off of the neck and shoulders. So, a little more formal than a ponytail. You should check with your other b-maids, though. They might just want to make eveyone look polished for pictures.
I had the most wonderful sister-in-law who tried to make everyone as comfortable as possible, and let people who were not used to wearing heels wear flats, and didn't make everyone one use 40 bobby pins and a can of AquaNet. Good Luck!

If actresses can get away with wearing low-ponytails on the red carpet, so can you! Maybe you could glam it up a bit though by adding something sparkly in your hair... maybe something to atleast cover the rubber band! Hope that helps!

If your a brides mate, I wouldn't suggest a low ponytail....
You need something more classy and wedding-ish.
But if you have to wear a low ponytail...I wouldn't consider a low ponytail an up do....

well, not necessarily, but i think she'd be ok with that. just don't tie your hair & leave it at that. it would be cute if you did it exactly like you avatar, with the bangs pushed back. Or put curls on that ponytal.

No. You should get it done by a hairdresser if you don't know how to do it.
