Everyone feels sad from time to time, but depression is an illness characterised by severe and prolonged feelings of sadness, dejection and hopelessness. One in four women and one in six men will suffer from depression at some point in their lives. Remember, it’s normal to be ‘depressed’ when you experience some major disaster or have suffered a severe loss. However, you should see your doctor if you are depressed for more than two weeks. Please seek help, you are not alone!!

What is a sikh? I'm sorry, but I've never heard of that. But regardless, don't be ashamed of who you are. Why would people stare at you? Maybe you are imagining things? Try to go for counseling (there are lots of resources that are free) and work on your self esteem. You are God's child just like everyone else and you are perfect just as you are...that's how God made you. Please don't think of ending your life just b/c other people try to bring you down. Nobody is worth it. I'm sorry about your father. But lean on your mother and try to appreciate even the little things you do have. We all have problems, money or not. You sound like a kind and loving person; be good to yourself and God will help you. Hang in there, Taj.

Don't give up on Sikhism. I'm a Protestant Christian and I think the Sikh's are the only religion that has it right. I know it must be hard to live by the strict codes, but it's still a great religion. Have you brought this up to anyone at the Gurdwara you go to?
Do you live in the US? If so, then the Turban is always going to get the attention of most Americans, thinking that you are a Muslim. You may want to consider moving to Canada. They are a far less uptight nation.

Please think about your family and don't do anything bad, Sikhism has not taught you to be like this, please be brave waheguru will help you, you have done nothing wrong and because of ignorant people living around you they have made you feel uncomfortable and sad.
Please hang on to what Guru Gobind Singh Ji did for the Sikhs and taught them.... please don't let other people destroy you. You have to ignore this behavior, if people stare at you I know it can feel horrible but you having nothing to be scared of or ashamed of.
There are always set backs for people when trying to get ahead in life we all go through them. please ask Waheguru to guide you and help you. I promise he will.

Taj, please call your local crisis intervention team and talk to someone now. If you are feeling like you want to die you need help. These people care about you and will see to it that you get the help you need. Call 411 and ask for the Crisis team, if no team in your town, call 911 and say you are suicidal! Do what it takes to get into a hospital before you hurt yourself, please!
