I've been blessed with a fast metabolism, so I'm thin but have had a really bad diet for the past 10 years-I'm talking about eating fast-food 3 times a day, and drinking nothing but soda. Is it possible for me to switch to water and eat nothing but veggies & fruits? Or will my body go all weird cause of the sudden change?

Yes and I should know I also have a high metabolism and did almost exactly the same thing when I got out of college to improve my running times. Needless to say it worked very successfully and felt amazing. You also need foods for sources of protien and balanced fats, however, including oils and or nuts.

>>>>>>Detailed answer>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

A FEW NOTES ON THE SIDE EFFECTS: at first your stomach may feel a bit odd as it has to learn to digest the cellulose in the veggies and you may feel a bit empty since your body can't get the nutrients immediately in the same way it can for, say, soda sugar or white bread starch.
>>>>>>
But be warned, you will need something beside just veggies, fruits, and water, though (those only gives carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals alone)...BUT NOTE, CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, CARBOHYDRATES FROM FRUITS AND VEGETABLES ARE MUCH LOWER GLYCEMIC INDEX THEN ANY COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATE PRODUCTS (POTATOES, RICE...EVEN WHOLE GRAINS) AND THUS MUCH BETTER FOR YOU...READ GLYCEMIC INDEX CHARTS IF YOU DOUBT ME.

specifically, you need protien and a good balance of fats (as opposed to the terrible fat balance in fast foods and even many normal supermarket foods)
>>>>>>>>
You also need protien...since vegetables have almost none you need to get protien from beans otherwise you won't be able to grow or maintain muscle and bones properly.

You also need fats to maintain these. You can do this by cooking your vegetables in both Olive Oil and some coconut oil (instead of cheese, which is a less healthy way to get saturated fats) or eating nuts.
______Fats are a bit complex (read Dr. Barry Sears' book the Omega-Rx zone and his Zone Diet literature for more info). Make sure to get as much mono-unsaturated fat as saturated fat (1 to 1 ratio...not getting enough saturated fat can actually be bad for you) and use fish pills for Omega-3 fats (most foods, even fish, don't have a fraction of the Omega-3's you need). Keep in mind fast food has well over a 10 to 1 ratio of sat fats to mono-unsaturated fats...that's why there are so many "anti-sat fat diets"

Best luck, if it goes for you anything like it did for me you'll feel great and natural on the new diet within about 2 weeks! :-)

If that's what you've been eating all your life, I'd expect there would be a really big detox effect. For a few days you'd probably feel like you have the flu. Once that's over, you'll feel absolutely amazing and wonder how you possibly lived before

You probably won't be able to switch to such a healthy diet straight away. I wasn't eating fast food three times a day, but I would binge pretty frequently on cookies and things. It took me about three years to stop that and go on mostly water and fruit and veggies.

Try to change your diet gradually. If you change it straight away, there's no way you'll stick to it. Change one thing at a time.

Eat some nuts and things as well, it's hard to get anough fat out of just fruit and veg.

Your desire to make changes now before your metabolism catches up with you is a wise and responsible decision. I've been reading absolutely everything I can find about diet and nutrition lately because I don't want to be another diabetic/heart disease statistic in a few years.

Most sources suggest making small changes over a period of time, using a "this for that" approach. For example, this week instead of a sausage and egg McMuffin, eat whole grain cereal with skim milk and fruit for breakfast. Next week, swap water for soda with lunch. Follow the same pattern consistently and before you know it, your bad habits will be replaced with good ones. In this way you can avoid the sudden shock to your body and the ill effects of the detoxification process.

No, you won't go weird due to the change. Just do it slowly and start by cutting out the soda. Or limit yourself to 1 a day, and then one every other day until you stop drinking it. Start eating at home more. Go to the store and buy healthy things and cook at home. It will be fun and you can save some money! Hope this helps!

you don't have to switch everything so drastically. try it slow. get off the fast food, but don't eat only fruits and veggies. you gotta have a balance of carbs, proteins as well. water is essential for proper function of your body and dental health. cut back on the soda, but drink plenty of water. if you can't or refuse to cook, you can buy premade foods that are healthy. just make a decision to eat healthier and it will be easier to transform your diet completely later on.

First of all, its a good start that you've noticed your bad eating habits and you're willing to change them for the sake of your health and not just your appearance.

I would suggest easing into healthy eating. If you really can't give up junk food straight away, try replacing one meal a day with a healthy option, such as chicken and salad with yoghurt and fruit for desert for a week. Then the next week replace two fast food meals with a healthy option. And gradually ease into 3 healthy balanced meals a day.

However I would not suggest living off fruit and vegetables to anyone, its not healthy at all. If you're changing your diet to improve the condition of your skin/hair/nails etc then you need a varied diet with lean protein (turkey, chicken, fish) complex carbohydrates (brown rice, brown bread, potatoes, wholeweat pasta etc) and lots of fruit and vegetables. Though don't completely deny yourself any food as you'll only crave it more.

If you snack, then try dried fruit with natural yoghurt and honey, smoothies, fruit, low fat crisps/cakebars/biscuits etc and if you wish, allow yourself one treat day a week, where you allow yourself say one fast food meal if you have to.

As for drinks try low calorie soda's to start with, then gradually ease onto, squash, juice, water, flavoured teas such as green tea, which is great for your health and the flavoured varieties are really nice!

Hope this helps!

If something too a lot cereal (too many carbs) through the right of the day. except that you probably did not smash something. What you ate at present will be large for the popular american ha. as well each and every once in a lengthy time period (once a month or each and every 2 weeks) don't be afraid to eat something undesirable. that's going to actual spike your metabolism somewhat and help with the psychological deprivation. desire this helps

You need to change your habits slowly so you don't send your body into shock! Also instead of a cheeseburger order a salad so the mental side of you still "thinks" fast food to start then move away from that! Good Luck.
