This probably won't help much... but for my kids, when they start understanding the value of money, I make them a deal:
They can have a birthday party and invite "x" number of kids
---or----
They can have the money that I would have spent on the party.
So far, they've chosen the party, but I suspect that soon my oldest (10 yo) will start choosing the money!
I used to work at a Recreation centre that hosted birthday parties. They had different types of parties: swim parties (there was a pool in the same complex), sleep-over parties, craft parties, sports parties. And, they were really reasonable!! You may want to check out local rec centres/ community centres.

Justice for Girls is awesome. $25 per girl. We allowed her a certain number of girls and they had a blast and we didn't have to worry about favor bags - it's all included. It was loads of fun and not....um...suggestive like some of the other places. They do their hair and nails and such and then they do the "catwalk" and pose for photographs - but not at ALL suggestive or trashy. I've seen some other places that do this but they do dances that would make ME blush.
My 9 1/2 year old daughter when to a friend's party today (boy) at the Roller Rink and had a BLAST.
We were going to do a spa party at the house, but I just didn't have the energy to get the house "party" ready.
Main event or Gattiland isn't too bad, either.

I understand that you are trying to be a kind mom by organizing an exciting fun birthday for your daughter. I have 4 kids ages 7 to almost 17. My 8, 11 & 17 yr old are girls. For years we have done very simple birthday celebrations that my kids cherish. They get to have 1 friend spend the night, eat dinner at their choice of restaurant and do one activity such as going to the movies or painting pottery, etc. I am fortunate enough to have the means to throw elaborate parties but I think it is inappropriate to do so. Kids need to realize that more is not better and most of the time unsatisfying and it leads to constantly needing bigger and better things to get a thrill. You are the parent, you are capable and you need to be in charge. There is just too much excess in this world and our kids are suffering because of it. Good luck and happy birthday to your daughter.

My daughter will be turning 9 in March, and I told her she can invite up to 10 girls to go to this princess store in town- they have similar ones everywhere. They have daytime slumber parties with Karaoke, and the girls get to dress up and get make up and everything. They even make a necklace or bracelet as a party favor. OR, you can do a Bowling party, that was our other choice. I agree to keep it out of the home. Sometimes the aftermath just sucks. Look in your yellow pages under Birthday parties. Alot of places list their ads there. Good luck!

How about suggesting the party at a local park, but make it fun.Arrive a little early and set up a scavenger hunt for a prize for the winning person or team whichever. Also you could have a sack race with old pillow cases.Just make it interesting to be at the park.

check out aerials gymnastics or any gymnastics place. they usually have a party deal, the kids are supervised and you pay a flat rate they provide the entertainment and you provide the cake and refreshments. if that isn't her cup o tea you can always take them to a movie, go to the early bird and groups over a certain number get a discount, movie places usually have birthday party ideas. or you can go the pizza and cake route at the park and rent a bouncer or a slide. good luck you can always look in your phone book for entertainment or party's see if there isn't anything in there you haven't tried yet.

How about having a party at the movie theatre, the theatre here has a room where the serve food and cake, and give the kids tokens for the arcade games, and they get to see a movie obviously.

Take them to a beauty salon to get their hair done. I had a birthday party there when I was around 9 and I loved it. The stylists crimped, curled, and braided our hair and painted our nails. Beauty schools will do this for cheap!!!

I asked my 8 year old Neice what she wanted and she wanted a cell phone because she says all her friends have one. Yeah girls these days are more "paris Hilton" influenced. They are no longer the sweet little "girls play with dolls " anymore. They now think things like that is un-cool.
