Yes you can but its rather high in fat. Try something like applesauce or bananas instead of margarine or butter or shortening.

I suppose you could substitute shortening for butter in any recipe but you would loose a lot of flavor and it might come out a little greasy.

When in doubt, use butter flavor shortening. When I don't have butter flavor Crisco I use half shortening and half butter/margarine.

Use Crisco "Butter Flavor" . It is cheaper & cooks just fine for most recipes. Cookies - probably use real butter, for better flavor.
