Pascal's wager:
"If god exists, it's infinitely better to believe, since you get heaven instead of hell for eternity. If he doesn't, it doesn't matter since you're dead anyway. So overall it's better to believe"
This is, of course, false.
Some of the problems with the argument:
* The implied assumption that god may exist (with a 50% probability, no less!)
* The assumption that there is an afterlife with a heaven and hell
* The assumption that the god cares about belief in him/her above all else
* The assumption that if you believe in a god, it will definitely be the same god that actually exists.
* The assumption that you lose nothing if it's false. You have lost a great deal, from time praying to a nonexistent entity (somebody mentioned just today praying several hours a day!!!) to morality (your god may ask you to hurt other people) and much more besides.
* The assumption that people can believe in something simply because it benefits them. Would you believe goblins exist for twenty bucks? Why not?
* The assumption that any god won't see through the "believing just to get into heaven" ploy.

no, i disagree.
my flesh body is bound to die sometime, but i have hopes of my spirit body living forever.
i would not bet my soul with you because i don't believe you have the means of paying off on the bet should i be right.
i can only speak for one religion, but if you search the internet i am sure you can find all religions beliefs on the subject. some believe in the after life some do not. I do.

I believe that our souls go somewhere, if I'm wrong I'm wrong it won't do me any harm either way I'll be dead, right? I guess that's why I'd be willing to bet my soul on it because I have strong convictions about afterlife and a higher power and if it isn't true my soul will die when I do, but I do not believe that to be the case.

We don't get out of this world with our physical bodies. Death is only to the physical body. The soul/spirit is eternal and never ceases to exist. Willing to bet my soul on what? Your question is incomplete.

When you die, and your heart and brain have stopped working that is officially the end of you as a human being. That is all we know for sure. What happens after that is beyond anyones control. Most religions were actually created to brainwash people and amass larger armies.

Alive in the sense we know it, no. Eternal life with God, possibly, for some. The best.

Agreed. But there is the issue of the Rapture of the Church. It could happen in this generation.
