I am not blaming them for my sickness. I know that I am ill. They just don't seem compassionate. I guess having to deal with so many patients has left them emotionless. I have been to many of them and they are all alike.

I guess some of you feel it's your duty to defend them. I do what they tell me but if I wasn't sick, I wouldn't be wasting their time.

well i guess you have been seeing the wrong ones or that you just don't think they are helping. some of them believe in hard love or tough love therapy, that means that they can not be as compassionate as you would like them to be, or they think that this is the best way to treat your illiness, or that if you knew that they were feeling compassion for your illiness that you would end up walking all over them. There could be a number of reason, but i do not believe that they would go through all those years of medical school and then internship, then before the medical board, then go 3 more years to become a psychitirist just for the money. Some may, but I think that most are really out to help, sometimes they just get so stuck in their book learning that they forget to learn from the people they are seeing , so if you don't like the ones you are seeing where there are more of them out there. I have to disagree they are not all alike, i really have not meant one that has been the same.

If it was not for some of these people i would not be here today, and it took work on my part too, you have to want to get better, even if you can't stand the thought of it, and you should be learning something from everything you have gone though, be it neg or positive. So remember you need to work hard too, they can not do it all for you, and they don't have all the answers, you need to help and find them.

To be honest, they don't make that much money to be in it only for the money. If money was their goal they would have studied business or something, but they chose to pick a field where they can help people.

Maybe you are not seeing the right therapist for you. Many of them are busy sometimes, so they lose sight of what they are doing. But instead of making a general statement like that one, try a different doctor.

best of luck 2 u

Some psychiatrists and counselors don't make very much money at all. Even some who have private practices donate time (or work for a very low salary) at clinics, HMO's state mental hospitals, prisons, etc.

Some are very compassionate, and truly care about the well-being of each and every patient they see. Are you telling them what is really bothering you, and being honest with them? You have to help yourself in order for them to help you.

I wish you well, and am sure you will meet the right doctor/counselor for you.

you know your rite. there are many, some for just money, some for friendship, others (and most)both. finding one is hard. but to find one who is unerstanding and willing to be your friend at the same time is one of the hardest things. but when you do you will find a much more comfortable relationship. and with this comes what is needed. it has taken me a long time to find a doctor. but when i moved i lost that and still have not found a dr. to help with my agoraphbia and panic attacts. one of the funniest i've herd ,was a doc asking if i was looking for attention. go figure.........and for those who dont know what agorrephbia is.....its a fear of leaving your home....... of people, crowed stores, or just leaving. i have panic attacts without leaving my home,(just thinking of going somewhere) it happens its an "illness". and having the rite doctor dose help.

As a mental health therapist I can tell you that while psychiatrists are doctors and make good money the counselors,of which I'm one, are the lowest paid professionals in medicine. I speak for most of us when I tell you that we do what we do because of a genuine concern for our fellow man. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than watching the look on someones face change when they reach a point of understanding,or to put it in simpler terms, when they 'get it'. Other than the Dr.s , we ain't in it for the money. Good luck to you !

If you mental health person is emotionless get out of his office and find a different doctor. A good doctor has compassion and will be able to help you. You sound like your doc is not doing that so find someone else better suited to you.

the one i go to is pretty good and she does care but they can only give out so much to each person. If they gave it their all for everyone they would be worn out. I have had a few psychiatrists and its basically trying them all on for size until a personality fits.

They have a vested interest in keeping you coming back, you are their income source...I'd get away from them and try a self help group of some kind.
