I don't like that work at all...it is base and is a way of just being too lazy to have a real conversation...it also marks you, some people that hear you use this word may never talk to you again, just because they don't want to know what else will come out of your mouth......good luck...why not say, this or that doesn't really work for me, or that was a half baked idea for this or that...get interested in the dictionary, it's really funny and if you're bored, learn to speak Latin, take a course as it will open many doors for good careers...anything in the medical field, you may not become a doctor but you could be a pharmacy's helper.....which pays good only takes about a year or so of school....good luck

When used as in sucking on something that isn't nasty; some sweets, popsickles... when referring to baby's breastfeeding... when referring to vacuum's... I agree with a previous poster that it's usually acceptable when referring to non-personal things too, although if you're really concerned about ettiquette I'd limit it to those things that are generally viewed as unpleasant (like the taxes example, or nasty weather). When it's just your opinion about something that others like, it may be come across pretty harsh in polite company!

When it is used not in reference to a person but rather a personified thing.
Example: Taxes will suck the life out of anyone.

When teaching someone how to eat crawfish, you must always advise them to "suck the head"... that's where all the spice is!!

I avoid it because, while it's not as strong as some cuss words, it's not entirely void of linguistic power.
