It's because people are stupid idiots who need to believe in something higher so that they can blame "God". Their life is screwed up because of "God". When you're in debt and mobsters chasing you, "God" please help me. Everything like that is not because of "God", but because a series of events led up to them. Oh yea, and i believe in "God". xD

I'm not sure why everyone else does, but my personal reason is because I understand just a little bit more about u. Did u know that the world got here before people? Ummm did someone send you with the answers? PS, if someone did, then that someone still knows a lot more than you. *wink* Made ur day didn't I? And about legalities and science...do scientists know everything? If they do, why are they still studying? Ahhh, boy oh boy you better pray they have all the right answers because if they don't....phewww, u can do the beginner's role and use religion as an insurance policy eh. And guess what, it comes with a much smaller co-pay.

My proof that there is a God is very simple:
It's a simple logical argument:
Premise #1: Wherever you find design, you need a designer.
Premise #2: The universe exhibits design
Conclusion: The universe needs a designer.
The only way around that argument is to deny the second premise. Every atheist has to deny design. But how do you deny design. It's everywhere. You have to be blind to miss it. You look at bats. They do not fly by sight. They can barely see in the day but they sleep in the day. They are nocturnal creatures. They do all their activities at night and at night they are blind. They fly by means of sonar. They send out sound waves through their nose as they are flying. If those sound waves bounce off something and come back at them, they pick them up and know that they are heading toward something and need to veer in a different direction. Somehow they know how fast they are flying and they know that sound travels at 723 MPH and as they fly they continue to send out sound waves so they continue to get updated information. Given enough info(and continued updated info) a mathematician could sit down with a pencil and paper and some calculus equations and figure out how far the bat was from the object and with the right info could even figure out if the object the bat is heading toward is stationary or moving toward the bat or away from it. But that would take time and if the bat took that much time he’d be flying into trees and telephone poles other things. We have developed computers that can do that in a second. That's what sonar is all about. The bat has a computer in his head that can figure that info out in a nanosecond. It knows what it is heading for without being able to physically see. It's flying by instruments(as pilots would say). Do you really think that the sonar equipment that is in the bats head just came about by random chance(read....luck) natural processes? You do if you're an atheist.
Paly's argument of the 1700's still holds today. He said that if you are walking through a forest and you find a watch sitting upon a rock, you have 2 possible explanations: 1)It was designed and built by a watchmaker 2) It came about the same way the rock that it is sitting upon came about.....by random chance. Which explantion makes more sense?
Do you really believe that dumb mud could somehow bootstrap itself into intelligence over billions of years simply by random chance luck? You do ir you're an atheist.
By the way, I'm still waiting to hear your argument for atheism.

They have their crazy beliefs because they fear what the world would be like totally alone- I know what the world is like totally alone and it's not scary- it's empowering and it brings a sense of serenity knowing that you can do it alone. And one of these days they will get out of our way on stuff like stem cell research- Have you read Letter to a christian nation??? It's really good and it addresses that same point- it says that your view of morality is really messed up if you believe something made up of 150 cells is more important than an ifant with horrible burns over half it's body. Read it if you haven't- you'll like it and just be happy knowing that you're smarter and more prepared for what life is going to give you than they can ever possibly be.

People believe in god because the need to believe in something. They are fear full that there actual existence is all that they have. They prove religion same way you disprove it. Since the world exists something had to create it why not a being who looks like us and is power full. Then the best thing going is well you have to have faith. Faith in what that a being created the earth or faith that I will go to a higher place.
Governments just want to regulate life. Think of it this way if you were in North Korea you couldn't write this. The fact that this is debatable makes the US the best country in the world. If you disagree with that aren't you glad you live in the US and can?

You are so naive. I am not delusional, nor have I been brainwashed. In fact, I'm considered very intelligent, with an IQ of 148. There are atheists who believe that killing an unborn child is wrong, too. That is not just a Christian thing. And, I have as much proof that God exists that you do that He doesn't. There are things in the Bible that people of that era could not have known and some things were not even known until after the Hubble telescope was built. So, stop making fun of people and judge yourself, not others.

People believe in God because people have self-imposed blindness. The culture governs the fact that most people would be ashamed of blasphemy. I come from a secular country where people are ashamed of superstition and denounce religion in general by culture. So actually it is normal to be atheists there and if you claimed to be Christian or Muslim or paid respects to Buddha or any other idols, other people will just look at you really weirdly in disbelief that you are actually doing something that silly.

Basically, religion is the oldest form of government. You give people hope and create peace and order by giving people something to believe in other than the physical world.
People get tired of worldly living and really want to believe that there is something higher and bigger and better that truly gives them a sense of purpose and meaning to their lives.
Without religion, the world would become a terrible place. People would become feral animals, as if they aren't already, and just totally go crazy on each other. There would no social order. People would just give up and give in to their primal desires since there would be no hope of something beyond what they have in the present.
Whether any religion is real or not is not the point, it's simply something for people to cling to and try to become better in the process.
Unfortunately, religion has fallen victim to money and worldly politics so even the basic tenets of hope and salvation have become lost in the struggle for greatness among men.

Some of us have had and continue to have proof that God exists, and some intuitively know that God exists, and some need to believe it ,so they do.
And some just hope with blind faith that God exists.
And some of course have no proof that God exists, and therefor believe that no such entity exists....
It's all good anyway if every one would just live by the law of LOVE
OH and yes, Religions were formed with the purpose of control in mind and to benefit the powers that be......

I believe in GOD because he lives. His Bible is HIS word, and the ABSOLUTE TRUTH. Killing babies/embryos for stem cells is a sin. Life begins the moment of conception-- and abortion is MURDER!!! And just where in the heck do you get the idea that the government is taking away from atheists, anyway?!! The atheists and non-believers are taking away our beliefs away. ACLU, anyone??

yep, thats the view of a lot of people. Like scales covering eyes, like a blindfold
if you want people to stop dying, then destroy all the drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and premarital sex. Diesises are run by us, we created them
If there were no God, the world would simply be a worse place and would even cease to exist
Your stubborn heart won't allow you to look closer
I've looked closer and there are faults in the church, but it isnt about church or religion, it's about God and following his will over yours
