I'm having a lunch reception for my wedding at a beautiful hotel, and would like my guests to come in a neat suit for the gents and a day dress for the ladies (i.e. something you would wear at the races minus the huge hats). What would be the appropriate dress code to state on my invitation card?

Thanks for any advice!

There are two options that I have seen used before: specific OR suggestive.
Specific Options:
You can specifically say something like :

"Classy Formal Attire (Neat Suits for the Men and Day Dresses for the Ladies)"

"We are having a classic themed wedding where neat suits for the men and day dresses for the ladies would be appropriate."

Suggestive:
"Attire for the event will be Formal Daywear"
"Attire for the event should be consistent with our theme of ________"

And a third option that I think would be kind, but you can't guarantee everyone use it is to couple an above statement with: "For further information regarding attire, directions or venue details please call the Hotel ABC Concierge at 123-555-1234."

You should then inform he front desk/concierge of the hotel with the specific clothing items so THEY can inform your guests as to what is appropriate and suggested.

They gown in a count number number that could want to split them from others alongside with no goth; no heavy makeup etc... they are all precise groomed and rigidity solid hygiene. surely you would not be able to inform them from one human being to the subsequent, they save the position you save and gown in outfits that are literally not revealing yet stylish. understand that each and each and everybody has there own personality and there own way of dressing. i understand that the ladies placed on outfits to their conferences and the adult males placed on matches it truly is out of appreciate to their God Jehovah. yet frequently, No they don't have a gown code, only a respectfull code of ethics.

Try cocktail attire. It means well dressed but I think you may mean semi formal which is too much for the afternoon event you are planning.
