Depends on wha you mean rescue...rescue as in being from an abusive household or rescue as in a trained/certified dog. The first will most likely be quite terrified for a while but will bond strongly with the people who live around it. In this case it would probably be very shy but almost overly wanting loving attention and to learn and be involved. A trained rescue dog would still bond with you but wouldnt have the same sense of urgency to be around all the time. It would be very well behaved most likely, but depending on the type of training may have been sensitized to smells or noises.
As for the dog being purebred, it really wouldnt make too much of a difference. Mutts are just as good as purebreds in a lot of ways and really only certain breeds (like bloodhounds for smell) have very specialized characteristics.

It is always a good idea to consider adopting a pet since so many languish in shelters in need of a home. Generally, most breed specific rescue groups evaluate the health and temperament of the rescued dogs and work to prepare them for new homes. Typically, dogs that come from rescues have current shots and vaccinations ready before they go home to you. Often times, though not always, they will have a history of the dog's likes and dislikes. The good news is that all this information will be readily available to you.

Be prepared to find that you as a potential adopter will also be evaluated for compatibility with the dog.

depends on what they were rescued from.. i had a brrindle boxer that was malnourished (deathly thin) with alot of rashes etc.. we helped him come back to good health - his coat looked beautiful. he was a lovable dog with a beautiful character.. but then i suppose he was not abused by someone hitting him etc.. the mental abuse of that wuold be hard.. so again it really would depend on what they were rescued from..

the dog will be quite obedient and alert and always wanting to please, just like every dog. some dogs are taught special key words when they were in service. like my dog is retired from the k-9 unit. he responds to some words in german. the dog will be absolutely normal but have a few really cool skills that would normally take months to learn already built in.
