Lay newspaper all over the floors...where your puppy goes is where he will go!! Take that soiled piece and move it to the area where you want him to go...once he goes there on his own he has learned...Take up all other newspaper in the house. Do not leave any laying around or he will go there too!! Some say it's the ink smell that also helps...some say it's that cold, crispy sound the paper makes, that signals them to go.....their potty area has to be a quiet area of the house too.
Word of warning, puppies like to go on the couch/bed....don't know why but they do! They NEVER do it in front of you, and you often realize way too late!

An important part of housebreaking a puppy is to start having a routine for taking her outside to eliminate. Take your puppy outside to eliminate first thing in the morning, after meals, before bedtime, and in the middle of the night if necessary. Give her time to do her business and avoid all interaction until she does so. Then praise her for eliminating. You can expect some accidents in the beginning. Just address them right at the time that it takes place with a firm, "No!" and then show your puppy where to eliminate.

1. Let the dog outside to potty at regular intervals - especially right after eating/drinking,
2. Have a crate for confinement when you are away
or sleeping.
3. Be aware of your dog's behavioral signals, i.e. sniffing around frantically....
4. Keep the dog "tied" to you on a 6' lead - this will encourage the dog to bond with you and prevents the dog from "sneaking off" to do his business in the house.

At night put the dog in a kennel, and let it out first thing in the morning. Keep the puppy confined to a small area until it gets older in the day. Take it to the door several times and let it walk out on its own. And have patience, but do keep it in a kennel at night, letting it out before bed and first thing in the morning. Dont allow food after say 7:00 pm
