The £80 price tag is to stop people just walking in and taking a dog on the spur of the moment and of course to help cover the costs of running a kennel.. some kennels will even make home visits to your house to make sure it is suitable for keeping a dog and make stipulations that you get the dog neutered.. they do it all for the welfare of the dog.. maybe if you go in there and tell them what a good home you would give one of their dogs they might waive the fee.. no harm in asking

How much I wish you lived in my neighborhood! I'm writing from the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, USA and I have just rescued a rather wild dog that was being beaten up by a pack of dogs.

I've had her six weeks and she is turning into a wonderful animal! Sweet, intellegent and most of all grateful! She isn't pretty...I've never seen a dog with stripes before...but she is eager to please and constantly hungry...she had been starving.

Unfortuanately, she was so thin and malnourished, I couldn't tell (and neither could anyone else) that she was pregnant and about to give birth. I had her for two weeks trying to fatten her up and she gave birh to four very cute puppies on Christmas Day.

The puppies are weening and can't be separated from the mother yet but I can't keep them or their mother. I'd mail you a wonderful, grateful and obedient dog if I could. I really, really wish you lived in my neighborhood. We need more people with attitudes like yours. There are millions of needy animals ...no one should charge money or pay money for one.

Native Americans believe the same as you and I. To buy and sell animals is obscene. Only livestock that can be sold for wool, leather or food are bought and sold...work animals and pets...never.

Be prepared to spend money on them though...they need shots, spay/neuter and food. They also get your house filthy if you let them in...do the laundry and carpet cleaning without complaint...its the price for loyalty and devotion. They do appreciate it!!! Thanks for all you do.

If you haven't got £80, how can you afford to keep a dog? Any dog needs feeding and at some time will need the vet. How will you afford veterinary charges? £80.00 is a nominal charge and is only the beginning of what you need to pay out over a dog's lifetime.

you don't get free puppies. £80 is reasonable for adopting a pup. How do you imagine kennels can survive and carry on feeding, vet care, pay kennels staff etc if they don't ask a donation? If you cannot afford to pay £80, you cannot afford to keep a dog, pay for innoculations, neutering, vet bills etc.

fantastic, how nice to read this. I don't know if you've had abused dogs before, maybe you have I don't mean to patronise, but they do have special training needs and may take up all your day. I hope you find the right dog for you. I do not live in your area; but I am sure there will be dozens of animal shelters around who would love to meet you! Good luck
