i honestly don't see the need. its not like we're going to need to powder our noses during the service, or get our cell phone out and make a call.
Maybe just get a tissue to blow our nose, or a cough drop. Maybe money if we are going to make a donation. But where i go to church, hardly any of those who bring them in with them serve a purpose.

I don't have anything against purses. I have many purses, but i don't see the need of them for that time in church. Some just take them in because "it goes so well with my outfit".
I can see why a mother, grandmother, babysitter(whose watching the kids) or a sick person would need one. But because it goes with your outfit is not a reason why.

I don't know about other women but in my purse I keep 1) my keys, which is preferable to locking them in my car, 2) my wallet and checkbook, which come in handy come offering time, 3) pens and highlighters, which I use during Sunday School and the service, 4) mints, candy, and/or gum, for those pesky coughing fits and dry spells during the sermon, and 5) tissues for cold and flu season. I don't even keep make-up in my puse, so the whole powder my nose thing is a moot point. I also know that some mothers of small children will keep little activities and things to keep them occupied for those times when the nursery isn't available.

For me, it's to carry my medication if I have an outbreak of bronchitis as I do every year. For my menstruation needs. Chap stick. Wallet. Keys. You know, things that are too many to carry in just my hands and looks bulky when shoved into the pockets. I don't carry mine out of vanity, but of course mine does look good. I carry mine because I actually need it. Oh, and I don't wear makeup all that often. When I do, I'm told I look like a clown because I am "blessed with natural beauty". Yeah, right, whatever. The most I wear is eyeliner and maybe some lip shine or gloss. And even that's rare. I am not a Christian and I don't go to church, but when I go the masjid I do have my purse. May I ask, friend, why you are against them? Some have honest to God needs in their purses and not just makeup. Maybe if it's one of those clutches, yeah, but the ones with the bigger under the shoulder ones have genuine needs.

Most women carry their purses everywhere. You never know when you will need something. And it is not safe to leave it in the car with all your credit cards. You must be very young.

don't forget about your monthly visit from your least favorite aunt. also, they keep many things in their purses, especially if they have children. They never know when they are going to need something that they have to carry just in case and church is no exception.

Well, why not? How many of us EVER leave home without our purses? Unless it is to get the mail, walk the dog or chat with a neighbor, that is.

I think for some women, they just feel off when they don't have their purses with them. It doesn't matter if they need their purses or not, they just feel better having it there.
