Anything with salt or sodium such as MSG found in most western style chinese foods as well as others. Heat can dehydrate a body as well as alcohol and coffee. But mostly from what I have come across the above really make things worse.

Hmm....
When we go to Mexico over the summer for vacation, my dad always swims out extremely far into the sea. Sometimes we can't even see him. He goes past the limit boueys and he doesn't have goggles or snorkeling things.
So one time, he took my 10 year old sister with him. They swam out reallly far, then came back. My sister was crying horribley because she swallowed a lot of salt water and was extremely dehydrated. She had to drink a lot of water before she was back to normal.
I pick salt water!

ive been dehydrated too many times, i can tell you, cramping is not fun, espicially when your entire body is cramping. the most common cause of dehydration is lack of fluids in your body, mostly by excessive presperation associated with overly exausting the body. if you are an athlete of any kind, drink plenty of fluids, even when you are not thirsty.
other causes include excessive vommiting and diarea, but these are less common. it is still important to remember that you have to force youself to take in fluids when you are sick like this, even though you will most likely not be thirsty.
remember, no water, no life
