My son is only 4 years old and he's hurting so much in his tummy from constipation. He went earlier and did some, but I'm not sure if he's done yet cause his tummy hurts. What can I do?

Go to the grocery store and buy Kyro Syrup. Have him eat a couple of tablespoons full. It will loosen up the stools and is just a syrup. I used to babysit my friends 2 year old and I learned from my friend to do that. Plus the syrup is sweet so its a treat for the kid. You can find it in the cake and oil isle.

Tips 1:

First thing in the morning drink a glass of warm water to which the juice of 1/2 a lime and 1 tsp honey has been added.

Tips 2:

Drink 4 glasses of water first thing in the morning.

Tips 3:

Soak 10-12 big raisins in a cup of milk and bring to boil, first eat the raisins then drink the milk.
Repeat this every morning for 3-4 days till constipation clears up.

Tips 4:

Mix 2 tsp husk seed (Isabgol) in 1/2 a cup of hot milk and drink immediately. Drink one cup of plain milk to follow.
Repeat this every night for chronic constipation.

Tips 5:

Fry small Harad 100 gm in ghee. When it is done, the harad will bloat and start smoking. Remove from ghee. Measure 100 gm Aniseed (saunf). Keep aside 50 gm and fry 50 gm in the same ghee. When lightly roasted mix with harad and remaining aniseed.

Powder all three together. Mix 100 gm ghee and 400 gm sugar candy and powder along with the other powders. Take 2tsp along with 1 cup of milk twice a day. Do not eat anything 1 hour before and after. Clears the stomach.

Tips 6:

Half a medium sized Papaya eaten before breakfast everyday

try mixing some prune juice with apple or grape juice and see if he'll drink it-this will help some.

Try giving your child mineral oil. Mineral oil coats the stool and helps it slide easily through the intestines. give your child 2 teaspoons of mineral oil twice a day. Thereafter, increase the dosage by 1 teaspoon every other day until the child is passing soft stool and any anal fissures (small tears around anus) have healed. (Mineral oil tastes awful, but it can be well-disguised in shakes, juice, Jell-O and ice cream.)

make sure he is drinking plenty of fluids (avoid too much juice max of 2-3 glasses per day. too much sugar can make constipation worse). dehydration can make stools harder, leading to further constipation.

Don't give your child an over-the-counter laxative. Laxatives should be used rarely, if at all, in children and can cause serious problems such as electrolyte imbalances.

if this continues for longer than 24 hours more, then make an appt to have him seen by his dr. they may have to prescribe him something stronger to help flush him out

hope he feels better!!

You could try fruit snacks. They have corn syrup and vitamin C which are both helpful in infants with constipation. My daughter is 4 too, and it usually does the trick. Also, you might want to call a pharmacist. They may be able to recommend something that might work faster. Usually there's at least one pharmacy that's open 24/7. If all else fails, there's fleet enemas for young children that will work.
