My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years and 2 months. I'm 20, he's 21. We're not planning on getting married or anything, but this is more than just a "high school" fling.. we're serious. She laughs whenever love is even mentioned, as if we couldn't possibly posses genuine feelings of love. It's getting annoying.. should I talk to her about it, or is she justified?

My Mom is the same way but she has good reason ... "love" has been anything but true to her over the years. Chances are, your Mom has negative opinions of love based on her own experiences. I had to tell my Mom to keep her opinions to herself because in the past, her negativity has put a lot of pressure on my relationships. Sit her down and tell her how you feel but be careful to be understanding of her feelings, too. Remember, family will always be there, whereas boyfriends may not. Good luck.

Your mom is projecting her own experiences on you. she has no idea she is doing this most likely. Tell her how you feel when she says that, but say it at a neutral time when you are not fighting or angry with each other. Another great idea is to tell her in a letter.

she needs to accept that you are able to find love at a young age.
Unlike her, she might have found it over time and believes tht love cannot be found unless you are older and have experianced heart break and stuff.
She also needs to butt out. this is the year 2007, you do not need her blessings for anything.

Ofcourse you should talk to her about it. Explain to her how you really feel about this person and that when she scoffs at your relatonship that it hurts your feelings. Ask her if she's worried about anything, like him breakig your heart or something like that. Do it without insulting her.

she still thinks your her "little girl" and will always be so understand that.

but i would be more than annoyed i would be pissed. if i lay my feelings out like that i expect people to respect them. she is your mom, talk to her, dont feel that you have to hide everything fomr her like when teens and teens. just be honest.

GOOD LUCK!

It sounds like she thinks you are too young and immature to understand what love is.

She is old and bitter and forgot how that feels. Cut her a break. She could be a lot worse.
