we have the resources, we have the information, we know whats happening, yet we do nothing to stop it,. global warming is not speculation anymore, its presence and concenquences are globally known and acepted by most scientists. there is undeniable evidence. the global temperature is off the chart compared to history. yes it is true we are in a natural cycle of increasing global temperature, but we far surpassed the the temperature and CO2 levels history says we should be at, and we're still getting hotter. My question is why doesn't the world switch to solar energy? i don't mean partly solar energy, i mean ALL solar energy. is there some reason we cant install mass solar panels? the more i think about this, the more reasons i see we should do this. firstly, we would greatly reduce greenhouse gas emmisions. secondly, we would be cooling down the earth at the same time, by harnessing the heat that would normally be dumped and circulated about the atmosphere...it all seems too perfect...

In the distant future, maybe. But, at the time no. Sure solar power is a great way to reduce emissions, HOWEVER, take a look at how these things are made. Power is needed to produce these things. This power comes from burning coal, nuclear power and other sources. Next, the machines used to make these things are made of metals, plastics, and lubricants. The productions of metals releases greenhouse gasses due to the smelting process. Same with plastics and lubricants, greenhouse gases are release during the production of these things. Also, the transportation of the raw materials and finished goods needs to be factored in. I haven't seen a transport truck, cargo ship, or cargo train that isn't fuelled by fossil fuels. We (the human race) will not see a solution in effect to wipe out global warming in our lifetime or our children's lifetime. I could go into way more detail, but I don't have that much time and I don't think anyone will read it.
In order for us to eliminate global warming drastic measures and new technologies need to come about.
ALSO, ANYONE WHO SAYS GLOBAL WARMING DOES NOT EXIST IS A COMPLETE AND UTTER MORON.
and if anyone gives me a poor rating for these statements, although it is you right to do so, it's my opinion that you are a complete jackass.

Do you know how many solar panels will have to be put on the earth in order to match todays energy use? 2% of the earth's surface would have to be covered with these things. Now that may not sound like alot but it's actually almost the size of India. That's alot. And they would have to be placed only in areas with adequate sunlight. Not only that but the energy it takes to make solar panels versus the energy you get from it isn't that good. And remember, the world's energy demand grows every day, and soon we will need to put it over 3% of the earth, then 4% and so on. Civilization is based on growth. And soon there won't be enough land left with adequate sunlight.
What the hell are people going to run their vehicles on? Forget hydrogen because that will never work, as it is a net energy loser. Electricity perhaps, but what about airplanes? There will never be electric airplanes. But a switch to electric vehicle would require a complete changeover of infrastructure that would take decades.
What about people living in sun poor environments like the far north? Will they get all their electricity from solar bases from faraway southerly places? That's quite difficult.
The fact is, nothing can replace oil. Industrial civilization was based on the use of fossil fuels which unfortunately, are far surerior. Don't worry though, we will get off oil when it becomes too difficult to extract, which will be very soon. After that, industrial civilization will fall, baby. I can't wait. This planet has had enough of it.
If you cared so much about the earth, you wouldn't support solar panels covering so much of it. Hasn't she suffered enough from civilization?

To a certain extent, but not fully. If everyone stopped using gasoline that would help even more. Plus solar power can also reduce your electric bills and other bills too! Alos I read that if you plant a tree near your ac that can help cool your ac and make it work less, so it wouldnt have to work as hard which means you save even more money! Also if you plant trees that will help clean the air, give more clean oxygen, help beautify your yard and even bring up your haous values along with helping the enviroment. But you would need to plant alot of trees. But every tree counts.Well I dont know if this has helped you or not but good luck.

Yes it would help it Globel warming is based much apon the ozone layer and that hole in it is getting bigger aloing the earth to become warming which is melting the polar ice caps which is causeing a reverse thing in the current causeing major changes if the earth doesnt change it will become like venus at 200 C and acid rain. Solar power would help the earth majorly.

Yes you're totally right! I saw a documentary on PBS where this actor(forget his name) installed solar panels on his roof, and has a totally eco-sound home- thought, my gosh, why can't we wake up and follow this guy's example? in the long run, using renewable energy will SAVE us money and the environement at the same time, and will also stop our reliance on foreign oil. We need to VOTE FOR the DEMOCRATS next election- the republicans and Bush are doing this country in in more ways than one!

Think about all of the implications a large solar array could have on the environment. It is an alternative not a solution.

I only read the headliner but yes. Solar energy and wind energy will definately cut down on global warming eventually eliminating it.

part of it, but not all, you still have cars, and factories
But if you think about all those engery companys will lose alot of money cuz eveyone want save the planet i think they have tie also in the gov't, and try to find some way to stop you or fee you .

No, there is no such thing as global warming.
Hell is just enlarging herself for more people in the middle of the earth. It will subside when she is does.
