Who agrees that the middle distance races, especially the 800 meter run are the most brutal of all athletic events in any given sport? 2 minutes or less of pure pain.............my opinion.

Yes they are! I run the 800m in 1:55. I have passed out 7 times doing this race.

Erm...I'm on the fence. I run the 800m in track, and it's my easiest race for some reason, and also my best. I'd guess I'll say it's not 2 minutes of pure pain...besides, it's only 2 minutes, a remarkably short time when compared to, for example, a 5k or a marathon. The time it takes me to run one 5k (22:59 on a good day) is the amount of time it'd take me to run 11 800m. Anyway, the point is, 800m=easy. 5k=pretty hard. 10k=mentally dead (along with physically) at the end.

the 800 is considered by many to be not only the most brutal race, but the hardest because is run on that fine line between a sprint and a distance run.

it depends on who you are. I run the 3200 with all ive got and thats closer to 10 minutes of pain. Good distance runners dont get some kind of 'break' because they can pace for a longer distance. no matter how long you run you should leave it all on the track.

either the 800 or the 400 definetly attempt to kill me every time i run them at a meet. but in my personal opinion, the 400 is slightly worse because of the fact that you're sprinting the whole thing and not just striding.

Yes! They're too long to run as a full-on sprint and too short to really be run with the pacing strategy of a longer distance event.

the 800 is the bomb! I looove it because you don't sprint or jog, just.. run. It's just short enough to not think, just long enough that you actually realize you're running something.
Two mile is killer. You can literally feel the years ticking off your lifespan while you go around that track, especially in a little 150m indoor track- it's like 25 laps!

I will agree if we are not including the Marathon. There isn't any feeling in the world that compares to "hitting the wall" at mile 22 and having to finish the last 4.2 miles.

Yeah man, you said it.

The 400 and 800 put a person into oxygen debt the way no other event can. Barf-o-rama...

You want pain? Try 2 rounds of boxing with Manny Pacquiao...
