No - it will probably irritate your skin further. There MAY be some drying effect initially, but this is not the way to deal with the real problem.

I'll recommend www.murad.com. Their products really do work because they treat the three major conditions that contribute to acne: 1. Bacteria, 2. Excess Oil, and 3. Cellular turnover rate.

There is some excellent information available at www.dermadoctor.com, along with a whole slew of products to choose from if you want to go that route. I'm not necessarily recommending what they sell, because so far Murad has been the best for me, but it will help you to be armed with the information you need.

Another good resource is www.sageskincare.com. They have a "safe cosmetics" section with a list of comedogenic ingredients to avoid. You would be surprised how much cosmetics, facial cleansers, hair care products, (Yes, toothpaste) and vitamins can contribute to the problem. In some cases these things are even the cause, so the acne goes away once you've eliminated the source.

Finally, your diet DOES matter! Steer clear of foods and beverages which are high in iodine (shellfish, power drinks like Dr. Enuf, etc) or high in acidity (like pickles, orange juice from concentrate, etc). Eating healthfully and exercising consistently can improve your skin naturally....and eating crap and not taking care of yourself in otherwise will also reflect in your skin.

You have to be a detective sometimes, but it's worth it to find out what your triggers are and learn to avoid them so you'll be back on the path to healthier, beautiful skin.

Good luck!

Not as well as most acne medication. There's a chemical in toothpaste which will dry up the acne but it really doesn't work as well as some people think.

Yes, it definitely works. It pulls out the moisture and dries out the pimple, leaving it noticeably smaller and sometimes it's completely gone! Just make sure you wash the toothpaste off in the morning.
