Yes, you are not giving them a choice you are forcing a belief into their minds and I think that is just wrong on so many levels. Many children that I have seen are missing out on their childhoods and they only get to be there one time, I think it is a shame.Parents need to wait it out and let their children choose what or what not to believe in.

I guess that, like most atheists, you see that the indoctrination of innocent young children into the faith in the existence of a supernatural entity and all the claptrap that goes with that is probably THE sole reason why religion continues to exist.
Given the opportunity to become involved or not is the best option any child of an age where it can think for itself can be offered. I was and thank my parents deeply for their foresight.
As for it being a crime ... can't see a law being passed. I just wish that they wouldn't do it. Religious freaks are being bred in huge numbers while atheism only occurs later in life to those of us who have an enquiring mind and the ability to ask profound questions, then to see reality for what it is.
There is no god. It is an imaginary thing. It is all in the mind and is planted there by freaky parents at an age when a child is soaking up information and WILL believe anything that adults tell it. Great shame.

It all depends upon what you mean by "forcing religion" upon a child. Parents certainly have a responsibility to raise their children with a knowledge of what constitutes "right and wrong" behavior and God is the ultimate arbiter of that although many people want to be their own "gods" when it comes to those decisions. However if parents belong to some bizarre cult and they force their children to engage in something like Satanic worship where human sacrifice and devotion to lawlessness is prevalent then I think that a law prohibiting that would be appropriate.

The hatred that is present in so many religions can cause serious problems... For example, the irreparable damage that is done to a gay child when he hears for years and years that homosexuality is an abomination.

All children are born atheist and I could only wish that we lived in a society that is progressive enough to not assume that children will choose the religion they were brought up amongst.

Well, a child will see how the people who raise it beleive, and will often follow in their footsteps, even if for a brief time. Forcing the issue, though, I think is cruelty. I was raised a babtist, and now I'm far from it. My hubby is catholic, so it makes for interesting conversations, especially when the kids ask religious questions..... FORCING someone into anything is wrong, or else why do we all have free will?

To me, it is the most horrible crime. If you have ever witnessed it or been a victim of it, you know how horrible it is. sickening. Religion should be something you choose - fundamentalist crap should not be forced upon ANYONE, especially kids.

no it's not. because people are not the same. people have different race. some races usually wants their children to be religous and stuff. so i don't think it's a crime cause parents only wants the best for their children. and some are only following traditions. forcing religion upon kids will make them a more better person when they grow up.

Parents have a right to raise their kids they way they want to and if they want to instill racism into them, they can and DO.

One things schools could do is teach COMPARATIVE RELIGION and that way every 10 year old knows by the time there are 11 what a Muslim, Atheist, Mormon, MEthodist, Catholic, Lutheran, Buddhist, Sikh and Hindu is.

It is a parents duty to teach their children and bring them up to be good citizens and honest, decent human beings. It is normal for parents to teach their children what they themselves believe. When the child is old enough to think for themselves, then they can do as they wish. Parents are not "forcing" religion upon their children. All children are open to learning.
