Good question. Catholics worship God alone. While we're on the topic, I'd also like to point out that, unlike a lot of protestants know, the Church does NOT decide who goes to Heaven and who doesn't, but rather just tries to figure out who DID. I once heard a "learned" protestant say the Vatican decides who goes to Heaven.
There's a lot of false garbage out there that many protestants really believe. Thanks for bringing it up.

Part of it could be that they have never been to a service for your church. It could be the fact that there is a prayer that is prayed to her. To most, that would be worship. Yes, she is the mother of Christ, and she should have a special place in the story and in the meaning of Christs' life, but she isn't the conduit between God and us, that's Christ. It's the same as people saying that some religions worship the saints. There are prayers to them, so to most, it's the same as worship.
In my religion, we don't pray to anyone but God, in the name of Christ. I can't say I know much about the Roman Catholic religion, but I have been to some Catholic masses, and it was hard for me to grasp because it was so different from what I believe. I think that to some people, different is bad. I don't think that what you believe is wrong, or that you are wrong for believing what you do, I think it's a personal choice, but I do think that we need to ask someone to explain what they believe before we jump to conclusions about them.
It's the same in my religion, most don't understand, so they make assumptions, or believe what others say instead of asking outright what we believe. Maybe you could clarify this for us all??

Before you read: I am not trying to make you mad or anything like that. I am trying to be honest and share information/thoughts.
Well, I'm independent Baptist, and I guess we think that because of all the paintings and statues and stuff at catholic churches. Most of us have never been to a Mass and really have no clue about your religion. We know you believe in Jesus, but the Macabes and Mary stuff scares us. We believe that only the Holy Trinity should be worshiped and everything else is against God's commandments. Using beads and chanting about the holy mother freaks us out because we have no idea why you are doing it.
From what I understand, Catholics believe that Mary can get messages to Jesus so you can send your prayers to her or something and she'll send them on to Jesus. Don't laugh if that's completely untrue, but that's what I've heard. We believe that we can speak directly to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that Mary was chosen for her role to give birth to Jesus and raise him as a MAN, but that she is not the "mother" of Jesus in the sense that He existed before he was "born" here. She is the earthly "mother" of Jesus (the man) and is not, herself, in a spiritual position equitable to the Holy Trinity.

Because its all part of the global conspiracy to persecute Catholics.
Mary is the easiest to misrepresent, and even with Catholic converts, it takes time and study and the Holy Spirit for the light to go on about Mary.
Marian doctrines are not easy to explain, and you have to really want to know what the Catholic Church really teaches about Mary.
There is no shortage of hateful web sites who LIE and teach FALSEHOODS about Catholicism. A popular one, jesusislord.con, is about as bigotted and false as they come.
I challenge anyone to provide an official Catholic document over a 2000 year period instructing Catholics to worship Mary. No such document or instructions exist.
All due honor we give to Mary is for the glory of Jesus Christ, and that is what anti-Catholics can't, or won't understand.

I assume you mean Roman Catholics.
The reason is two-fold. First, Protestants have lost the concept of asking saints to pray for us. Second, when Pope Pius IX instituted the new idea of Mary's immaculate conception in 1842 (it wasn't consecrated until the 20th century), he made Mary almost equal to Jesus. (But I am biased, being Eastern Orthodox.)
So even though you don't worship Mary, it seems that way on the surface to Protestants. Add the new dogma to that and it ALMOST could be true.
And no matter what others say, icons of Mary and other saints are fine. Since Jesus (God HIMSELF) came down to earth in the form of man, it is OK and, in fact, good to depict Him and others (partially as a holy teaching tool). No one is praying to a picture of Jesus or saint. That's like saying I have a picture of my cat on my desk at work and I pet it and feed it a love it. No, I pet and feed and love my actual cat.

Presuming you're Roman Catholic. Anyhow, I'm Episcopalian, and have attended many Catholic Masses. Relax. Most Protestants don't think you actually worship the BVM. You revere Her, perhaps, but "worship" isn't quite the correct term. Who told me that you worship Mary? Not my priest. Certainly not my Catholic relatives. Only a few Fundamentalists have ever said that with any seriousness, and when they're challenged to prove it, they tend to lapse into a prolonged silence.

I used to be a Catholic and we are told to pray to Mary the Mother of God. What is prayer? It is a form of worship. And if we go to her and not to God isn't that like putting other "gods" before Him?
Mary is not the Mother of God. She was a human being like the rest of us, and was the mother of Our Lord Jesus , who was also in His human body. What does the word hail mean when we pray the Hail Mary? To pray to her is to make her equal to the God head. There is only One God, The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Not'' and Mary" also.

I am a Christian I don't believe you worship the Virgin Mary. No one told me you did. Actually I don't even know you, but I think you need to learn to type just a little bit better when you ask a question. Ex( thin?) Or use spell check.

Observation. Catholics are notorious for going into hawk to fly across the country to see her supposed image on a potato chip. Then once they arrive they light candles and pray to her.
All of that sounds like "worship" to me.

Because the Catholic faith give Mary a degree of reverence the other denominations neither match nor understand, and we use so many images (statues, paintings etc) that they mistake us for idolators.
