There are or will soon be Hispanic majorities in some states, illegal and otherwise. What will the quota be for non hispanic's. Will they then do the jobs they won't now?

I've never loved affirmative action, but I think it has had its place in America. No one can deny that minority groups have faced social, economic, and political inequalities in the past, and to a lesser extent, still do today. Affirmative action was put in place in the early 60s, as a legal fix to our culture's gender, religious, and (most importantly) racial discrimination. It was meant to create a level playing field by counteracting the deepseeded injustices of the past, that still held firm in the present.

Is it fair? That depends which side of the issue you are looking at. One can look at the issue as reverse racism. There have been times that, as a white citizen, I've hated that I wasn't eligible for racially-exclusive scholarships in college, or that I had less of a chance at a job than a black or hispanic applicant.

Yet I always remind myself that I've lived a great life, free of most social stigmas, and that I don't know what it's like to be black or hispanic in American culture. How would I feel, born diadvantaged from the start, because my family's wellbeing had consistantly been repressed by the unavailibility of education, safe housing, employment, or quality health care?

The issue all boils down to this: should our government be acting as a social check? My opinion is that it should, but only to extent that it levels the field for all races, religions, etc, and does not tip the balance of oppurtunity to one side or the other. I tend to think that the need for affirmative action has passed, at least in the severe form it is being enforced now!

And to get to your question - white Americans should be eligible for affirmative action if and only if their racial/ethnic group has been subject to dehabilitating social injustice - which we haven't.

Actually, Whites, as you put it (kinda race like but ya know I an't senseitive like SOME people I know) are mostly a minority anyway at this point if I am not mistaken.
Any good racist will know that whites are here to take care of everyone else, that's why we won't do all those dirty jobs the illegals supposedly take from Americans.
When I was 20, excellent as I was at my work, I couldn't get a job cuz I was white. I guess being white doesn't hold up quite like everyone thinks. To get a job then ...and now, you have to be black, brown, or female and or to be able to speak Spanish. Which I also do. No job for me however.
So I got to be an independent. Hey, I made some lemonade out the all the lemons. Now, a bunch of free loaders have broken into the country, (my govenments' fault mostly) and I have to worry about losing what I earned being a minority ...to folks who come here as illegals. Boy, this does not sound like the American dream I've been reading about. Kinda rmeinds me of theat Alice in Wonderland, Wild Tea party. Up is down and down is Up!
If that's the case, in answer to your question, maybe I will get some affirmative action as I breath my final breaths, ...as a white male, American.

We are but our leaders are too convincing to seperate us the people apart from each other so we can't unite as a one nation so such action can not take places. Our leaders want to slash down the power of it's united people from being too powerful that they could not control us. Yet no one realized that the people of the USA are the most powerful body of our nation that could have sway our leaders to accomplish things that benefit everyone except for the protection of the leaders' interests. this is the reason why the current administration is saying that anyone opposed their deicisions are by every means are terrorists too. It's called a "scare tactic" that scared the body of the nation to do anything so to come in between the leaders' true intentions. That would jeopardized their interests. So what they have to do is to mesmerized the body of the nation so they can control us and make us thing waht they did is right. that's why things are really in a big shamble. It's a real shame yet half of the people in this country are agreeing to what our leaders did was right just because these leaders know how to say things that can take away their hearts. True but sad. Good enough, yes?

I suggest the whole affirmative action program is in violation of the Constitution along with that not legal a binding, buy symbolic Declaration of Independence. Affirmative action should be on socio-economic problems, and quotas set to that.

Affirmative Action became unnecessary MANY years ago. But now that it might actually work in our favor I wonder if the old minority/new majority will start to squawk about it!

Here in Las Vegas, NV (Clark County) our school district now has more Hispanics than any other ethnicity including Caucasian. We have the 4th largest school district in the whole country!!! (see article from local paper below as proof)

http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/nevada/2006/nov/18/111810653.html

Look at the statistics for this local elementary school. 6% Asian, 10% Black, 14% White, and 70% Hispanic. 79% of the kids at this school get Free or Reduced Priced lunches and 50% of them have limited English. 26% of the kids meet standards for reading, 20% for writing, 37% for math and 21% for science. These kids are flunking and they only hold back 17 kids. (see attached PDF for proof) Per pupil expenditures are $4,758 per student. (At MY daughters school they only spend $4,074 on her.) Through the whole school district 46% of students get Free or Reduced lunches meaning that 46% of the kids in the school district have parents that live in poverty basically. We have a $6.15 minimum wage as well (that actually goes up when the federal level goes up).

in the journey that they have got received the most floor, it isn't a function of racial prejudice, a lot because the actual incontrovertible fact that there are exponentially better White females contained in the USA of a than Black females. Affirmative action changed into applied in 1973 with the specific objective of giving minorities and females what quantities to a "head initiate" contained in the race of canines ingesting canines.

with the immagration of hispanic's and asians into our country within 10 years there will be no more affirmative action. whites will no longer be the majority race.there will be an equal amount of whites and other races. so there will no longer be an "isolated "minorty.all races will be counted as equals and no preference given to anyone. this is from the goverment study of the past 15 years and researched in the house of commoms of europe.it is bing looked at as an euro project of the entire world.

Someone mentioned already that white women are eligible. Rich white men have been a minority for ages, and if you somehow think Affirmative Action is affecting your job prospects, just become an unscrupulous, conniving prick and maybe one day they'll let you join their ranks.

My friend, Whites are expected to carry the load, as we have always done. I stated a while back that if I were a protected class I would still be offended that somebody knew I couldn't compete on a level playing field.

I don't know why bleeding heart America can't get behind the reality of the problems and not the people who are so lazy and stupid they can't hold a government job without having the employer forced to hire them. Go figure!

America still rocks, but soon will fall

Well, we are already a minority of college aged (not college bound) people in Ca. but instead of giving us minority benefits they decided the population of the colleges should represent the population of the age group and so 60% should be 'minority' (non white, that is) and 40% should be white. So the majority of qualified applicants are the minority of acceptees.

Anything new where you are?
