Not usually. The only way you will go to jail is if there is a threat involved or if you are really obnoxious and loud. If you are really loud, the police may charge you with some sort of disorderly conduct charge (usually dependent on your local laws). If it was short and sweet, I know police officers that I work with would normally just send you home or on your way.
In my jurisdiction, a person would be cited (given a ticket) for that type of offense. They could potentially be arrested, but they would have to be fairly obnoxious for that to occur.

In the US as elsewhere in the world you can go to jail simply for exercising free speech. I am not talking about obscenity or hate, but simply saying something the government doesn't like in the wrong venue.
to wit:
"free speech zone" implemented during last republican convention.
arrest of protesters at G8 summit.
the arrest of blogger Ken Krayeske.
the arrest of Cindy Sheehan.
the arrest of 5 US congressmen, Tom Lantos,James McGovern, John Olver, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Jim Moran.
the arrest of Max Obuszewski.
the examples are endless...

I don't know Canadian law, sorry. However, in the US a nice verbal barrage on a fellow citizen can be considered "assault." People often confuse that with physically harming another person, "battery." You normally hear those terms together in our vernacular! You should check out "Cops" sometime; it's a great show. You could be charged with "terroristic threats," as well.

I don't know about Canada but here in the states that's called slander and you can be sued for such....I don't believe you could go to jail unless you cannot pay the settlement.

No, when you are told to stop talking how about listening at least when its the police. Don't push the envelope it could lead to a charge of disorderly conduct.

You will need to be more specific. Are you contemplating inciting hatred for example? Being racist? Instigating violence?
