Islam's Scripture does hint at "Lovely Ones with Wide Eyes" as one of the entities in paradise but where this concept of 72 virgins has sprung, I have no idea. The Islamic Scripture does NOT mention any such number.
The Scripture does not mention this in a sexual context and if there are lovely people in a lovely land, I am sure it would further adorn the place.
There is mention of 'wedding between fair ones and others' and that would of course imply that people seeking matches for a wedding will find exactly what they seek; everyone's preferences will be catered too and this is Heaven in ISlam... that what you wish for is what you shall get even if it is the ideal companion.
The concept of Paradise in Islam is "Gardens underneath which rivers flow" which to me sounds like a peaceful, beautiful place and my concept of heaven would be that (if at all I manage to get there) I would like to dwell in that picturesque place with my Wife and not with the fabricated virgins of someone's imagination.
If there are Muslims who seek Paradise for Virgins... i am sure they will be disappointed and God would consider their motive ebfore deciding upon their fate.
For the last time, this concept of 72 virgins has nothing to do with the Quran and hence Muslims' virtues are NOT sex-driven.
Cheers.

Apparently its a lie. A very convincing lie that someone made up long ago to encourage people to go on suicide missions with the promise of eternal youth and 72 different women who are eternaly viginal (i.e, their vaginas are tight ALL the time) and after sex with any of them, they become virgins again so they stay tight.
This sounds pathetic since its said the soul is genderless. but It sure works on men who love the idea of non-stop sex for eternity....Why, its like a porno come true, despite the fact the muslims hate pornos (at least thats what they tell us)
If you ask me....this 72 virgin thing is a trap, a lie to make men kill themselves along with others to carry out the ring-leaders twisted plans of removing obstacles.
If by any change we all DO get 72 virgins in heaven.....well, killing others doesnt sound very nice or 'holy' in order to get them does it....hell, if fanatics kill people, they'd end up in hell with 72 demons and not virgins and get tortured for eternity.

They say the 72 vigins thing is from other sources, like that Hatith.
The Quran, however, says that anyone who dies in the servie of Allah goes to a nice places, eats and drinks good food servied by "untouched" (virgin) people. No quantity is specified and it doesn't say anything about sex.

Not all muslims believe this...islamic fanatics are told that they will have virgins waiting for them in their heave if they kill themselves in the name of allah. I repeat...this is NOT what ALL muslims believe. I don't know about the number...it appears to be getting higher over the years. And yes...it is extremely manipulative.

72 pure souls you fouls.
More, God is not interested whether a large number of men follow or deny Him. He has given us Islam for our own good and it does not make any difference to Him whether the whole world becomes Muslim or not. If we accept Him, it is for our own benefit. But it is by nature that truth prevails and falsehood perishes.
ISLAM: ISLAM is called submitting to the WILL of GOD, who is a Imageless God, not like anything, on the earth, in the heavens, and in between and beneath or over them, who has no associates. And to accept the prophet Muhammad as a servant and a messanger of Allah.

Personally I thought it was something like 40 virgins. Question is; where do you find 40 virgins? Consider this -- no matter how many of them there are, this is eternity and they and you will get tired of each other. Suppose you do something to tee them all off and they want to depose you and replace you with someone else -- what would Allah do? Also ponder this, if the normal physical laws of nature still hold, they will soon be all having the same days for their period if they are housed together.

The word "virgin" only appears in the Qur'an twice by what I can find in the online searches. Here they are:
This passage is in regards to death in The Event:
[56.24] A reward for what they used to do.
[56.25] They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse,
[56.26] Except the word peace, peace.
[56.27] And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand!
[56.28] Amid thornless lote-trees,
[56.29] And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another.
[56.30] And extended shade,
[56.31] And water flowing constantly,
[56.32] And abundant fruit,
[56.33] Neither intercepted nor forbidden,
[56.34] And exalted thrones.
[56.35] Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth,
[56.36] Then We have made them virgins,
[56.37] Loving, equals in age,
[56.38] For the sake of the companions of the right hand.
[56.39] A numerous company from among the first,
[56.40] And a numerous company from among the last.
And this in The Prohibition:
[66.1] O Prophet! why do you forbid (yourself) that which Allah has made lawful for you; you seek to please your wives; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
[66.2] Allah indeed has sanctioned for you the expiation of your oaths and Allah is your Protector, and He is the Knowing the Wise.
[66.3] And when the prophet secretly communicated a piece of information to one of his wives-- but when she informed (others) of it, and Allah made him to know it, he made known part of it and avoided part; so when he informed her of it, she said: Who informed you of this? He said: The Knowing, the one Aware, informed me.
[66.4] If you both turn to Allah, then indeed your hearts are already inclined (to this); and if you back up each other against him, then surely Allah it is Who is his Guardian, and Jibreel and -the believers that do good, and the angels after that are the aiders.
[66.5] Maybe, his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your place wives better than you, submissive, faithful, obedient, penitent, adorers, fasters, widows and virgins.
[66.6] O you who believe! save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is men and stones; over it are angels stern and strong, they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them, and do as they are commanded.
Nowhere do I find any reference to "72 virgins". So it must be a fanatic Muslim thing or something made-up by fanatic Christians to debunk Islam.
My question... Why would you want a virgin anyway?
