I am a Lutheran, and I think we have the best doctrine in the Christian faith, not that I am trying to put people down or anything, all I am saying is that Lutherans seem to follow the bible (not add and take away as they wish) and we believe that we are saved by the grace of God and NOT be our own works or doings. Well anyways I think Lutherans have a good idea of what God wants, not that all Christians are wrong, its just the Lutherans have a clear doctrine

WHY do you need a "Doctrine" at all?? The HOLY BIBLE should be Your Doctrine. We don't need a doctrine to have our church services. WHY should YOU? Think about it. GOD spoke the world into existance. HE certainly did not need the Lutherans to InVeNt their own doctrine to ExPlAiN what HE MEANT! HE said what HE MEANT. Just foir my memory's sake... Do you Baptize infants? Do you use the Old Testament as a guide for living?Do you believe that when a person is "saved" they are forever saved and can do no wrong? I just want to be a Christian. NOT a Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian,Methodist, Mormon, or any other Denominational person. GOD comes FiRsT in my life, my family (church and filial) come second. Read, study, and obey HIS HOLY BIBLE.

Heh...I think the good things Luther "re-discovered" have been adapted into most evangelical churches long ago. I'm a Lutheran (AFLC), but I don't see the need for a separate denomination, based on distinctives that are no longer distinct. Know what I mean? I think most Bible-believing Christians believe in grace through faith alone.

I come from a long line of Lutherans, and was baptized in the Lutheran community. I am now Catholic, because no one has the right to break away from the Church Jesus Himself founded and start a new one. Martin Luther was mentally ill, and this influenced his thinking.

"A 16th-century Augustinian monk named Luder for some reason left a very detailed diary. This is a man who grew up with an extremely brutal father, had a very anxious relationship with him, was very psychosomatic-illness-oriented... One day he was out walking in the field. There was a thunderstorm, and he got a panic attack, and vowed, 'If I'm allowed to survive this, I will become a monk and devote the rest of my life to God.' He survives, becomes a monk, and throws himself into this ritualism with a frenzy. This was an order of monks that was silent 20-some hours a day. Nonetheless, he had four hours worth of confessions to make every day: 'I didn't say this prayer as devoutly as I should have. My mind wandered when I was doing this, doing that.' The first time he ran a mass, he had to do it over and over because he got the details wrong. He would drive his Father Superior crazy with his hours and hours of confession every day: 'God is going to be angry at me for doing this, because I said this, and I didn't think this much, and I didn't do this the right way, and I...' until the Father Superior got exasperated with him and came up with a statement that is shockingly modern in its insight. He said, 'The problem isn't that God is angry with you. The problem is that you're angry with God.' The most telling detail about this monk was, he washed and washed and washed. As he put it in his diary: 'The more you wash, the dirtier you get.' Classic OCD. The reason why we know about this man Luder is because we know him by the Anglicized version of his name: Martin Luther." -- Robert Sapolsky, a professor of neurology at Stanford University

Lutheran doctrine is closer to the truth than that of most Protestant denominations, because Lutherans have rejected less of the teaching of the original Christian Church. They are only "once removed" from the fullness of truth, while many denominations are offshoots of offshoots of offshoots of offshoots, losing more and more truth with each split. Anglicans likewise have retained a large portion of the truth, for the same reason.

Your question is a perfect example of why man-made religions are NOT of God. A religion tailors to the likes and dislikes of its members. It is impossible for a "religion" to be untainted & pure.

Salvation and Truth are not games and competitions of who has created the best or least acceptable denomination. Your question are words only a "babe" to God's Word would speak.

Hebrews 5:11-14 says: You are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the "elementary truths" of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

There are people who have embraced RELIGION and CHURCH for years, and still don't know Truth. This includes pastors, deacons, ect. If you are in a religion, or following a Preacher or organization, where all the teachings suit your lifestyle, and you are required to make changes with little discomfort, you are NOT being challenged by the true Word of God.

God gives us love, grace, and mercy to endure all tests and temptations. However, to fully transform our lives, we will experience noticeable resistance, correction, and rebuke from the Lord as we follow his word CORRECTLY.

If you have not reached a point, where you NEED God to get you through each day, so that you can live according to his Word, you have not fully submitted to the Lord, and have accepted sugar coated teachings that fit your personality and temperment.

When is the last time you fell to your knees in prayer or surrendered to God????? Why not proclaim that God's Word is the "best" instead of cheerleading for a religion?

Below are just a few scriptures we should meditate upon daily:

2 Timothy 4:3,4 - For the time will come when men will not put up with "sound doctrine". Instead, to suit their "own" desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their "itching ears want to hear". They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

2 Timothy 3:6-7 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires. Always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

Luke 6:26: Woe to you when "all" men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.

Blessings, Miji

Yeah, I like the part about not being saved becase of anything you did. That's great because it means I can do whatever I want in this life and it won't matter because I am save by the grace of God. That's awesome. I think I'll go drink a little, have a homosexual relationship and then maybe never go to church. And, because I'm a Lutheran, I will be saved! WoooHooo!

Roman Catholic. Lutherans older siblings.

The BIBLE says we are saved by GRACE through Faith and not by works alone.

So I'd say we are given Grace freely by God for Faith in Action. (works)

i am apostolic pentecostal and give me thumbs down however we all use the same doctrine. so how is yours better. i know many lutherans who are not all that good. as well as other beliefs as well as my own. we are all equal in Gods eyes.

i dont know much about Lutherans at all. our church does the same thing. in fact we had a guest who was very shocked because our pastor told everyone that we should not take his words for what the Bible says but read it ourselves. and added that we should not just take the verse either but read the whole scripture. and scripture says we are saved by works. it says faith without works is dead.
also many churched preach against stuff they feel is wrong. they will use a verse to justify it. like many catholics use the verse were it says we should admit our sins amongst one another. that is true and you can read that. however as i said before read the whole scripture. just after it says amongst one another that we have sinned against. that is if i hit you i should go to you and say sorry and admit it. not to my wife or some priest and admit it. the Bible says it is between us and God alone. not some priest to tell me my sins are forgiven. just like i cant ask God to forgive my brother.

and do you baptize in Jesus name? or get filled with the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues as an initial evidance?

in acts they did these things. the preached baptizing in Jesus name. baptize is us being burried with Jesus as he died for our sins. we are washing away our sins and burring our old self and then becoming a new person.

and the works part is there are some out there who believe that they can just be a good person. so we are saved by faith. not works. however faith without works is dead. that means you have the faith. now go out and reach out. read the Bible, pray. follow the commandments, if you truly have faith and believe in God then you would go out and let everyone know about God. and not be ashamed.

and i would not say any church is better then the other. i dont claim our church is the best. i know that many people out there can be saved and not go to out church.

and our church is more strict then most. and i rather be to strict then not strict enough.

do you guys preach against females cutting there hair? or men not cutting there hair? not that its a sin but the Bible talks about a women should not cut there hair and a man should cut there hair. what about make up and jewlry. or what about tv? and even some toys out there? as a christian a lot of these things are of the world and the Bible says we are to seperate ourselves from the world. we are in the world but we are to not be of the world. tv is not wrong just some shows are. ok most shows are. and when you have tv you get tempted to watch other shows.

But how could one denomination have a "better" doctrine than another, since all of them theoretically are following THE SAME BOOK?

This is one of the reasons that I have a hard time with Christians who say that their way is "the right one" and everything else is "wrong".

Why should we believe you have the answers when y'all can't even agree amongst YOURSELVES what your Holy Book says?

The examples of infighting even in the answers in this thread only serve to reinforce my opinion.

I am a Lutheran also, and i also think we have a better doctrine. Although that could just be my pride in religion, but if you read up about history, you can read about Martin Luther who went against the Catholic church when they decided that people had to pay money to get into Heaven. I think we're the most basic, and simple religion and that we are very right on how God is.
