I just purchased a 1997 isuzu rodeo, Do i have to get a smog check? He said he smogged it, but by law do I have to get a smog check again for when I go to the DMV? The last time it was smogged was 2005, according to a carfax record. There is no record of it being smogged since 2005.

It depends on the laws where the vehicle is registered. I live in Texas and we have to have our vehicle pass every year if we live near certain metropolitain areas or we can't re-register our vehicles. Since you don't state where you live I can't tell you what your local regulations are, but just call you local DMV and they can tell you. Good luck.

With the "clean air" laws that we were told were only for urban areas being made state/nationwide, even though it's been effectively proven most of the harm to the enviroment comes from utilities and heavy industry, not to mention all the diesel powered vehicles they got people to switch too, I believe anything after 1985 must pass the orginal specs for clean air, basically anything that has catalytic converters and emissions control must function or you have to spend X amount of dollars to the inspection center for repairs, basically with the new wired-in sensors communicating with state headquarters, it just makes transportation that much more expensive and another burden on the working poor, for limited enviromental quality improvement compared to say, jetliners, or the power plant that creates the electricity that charges the batteries in someone's electric car. The "lead" came from a fuel additive they did away with decades ago, but turns out the greatest source of lead in urban areas was from dirty apartments and old lead paint on said buildings or furniture. The whole thing was a crock, an expensive crock for the consumer. But it helps sell new cars, and puts more revenue in state coffers, that's the important thing.

you should do it for free at Autozone or reset it your self. An Isuzu Rodeo is in reality a Honda PAssport so reseting it could be the same. To reset: a million. turn the motor vehicle off. 2. Press and carry the reset(odometer/vacation) button. 3. at the same time as retaining the button down, turn th ekey into the on postion, which activates the electrical energy, yet not the engine. 4. save retaining down untill the examine engine mild dissapears.

Depending on where you live it may only have to get checked on a schedule, it may have to be checked when you go to register it, or if you're lucky enough to live in a place like I do, it does not have to pass inspection. I have a Mustang with no cats and it burns oil... but it's a legal race car that I don't have to get checked. It only depends on where you live.
